Apollo, Daviess County, Owensboro Catholic and Trinity all continued their play in their respective holiday tournaments with three of them securing victories on the day. Owensboro Catholic defeated West Creek (Clarksville), TN 66-55. Individual stats are currently unavailable.
AHS 46, McLean Co. 41
Apollo closed out their final match in the Commonwealth Rolled Products Christmas Classic with a 46-41 win over McLean County. Apollo grabbed the win out from McLean as they trailed at the end of each quarter. They started the game off behind 12-9 at the end of the first quarter. By halftime Apollo were still close behind at 28-25. After the third quarter ended 39-34 with Apollo still down, they mounted a big defensive effort in the final quarter and held McLean to just two points in the quarter. Three-pointers by Kobe Kelly and Luke Jarboe helped Apollo score 12 to win the game 46-41.
Kelly along with Landon Henning led the Eagles in scoring with 14 points each. Luke Jarboe followed close behind with 13 points.
DCHS 84, Todd Co. Central 61
Daviess County’s first match in Rafferty’s Caveland Classic in Edmonson County ended with a 84-61 win over Todd County Central. The match started out close as DCHS had just a 2 point lead at 23-21 at the end of the first quarter. They had a tight grip on the rest of the game as they outscored Todd by 10 or more in the second and final quarters. They finished the win 84-61.
The Panthers had two players score 20+ points in their victory. DeAaron Watkins had the most points with 22. Jonathan Moss had 20 points as well. Gage Phelps and Ayden Ayer also scored in the double digits with 15 and 11 points respectively.
Hancock Co. 66, THS 48
Trinity suffered a 66-48 defeat to Hancock County in their final match of the Commonwealth Rolled Products Christmas Classic. THS trailed 13-8 at the end of the first quarter. The game stayed close in the second and third quarters, but the game fell out of reach in the final quarter as Hancock outscored Trinity 16-5 to run away with the lead and the game at 66-48.
Leading the Raiders in scoring was Hayden Aull with 14 points. Aull had 4 three-pointers during the match to contribute on offense. Will Hernandez had the next highest points with 9.
