River City Pickleball Club concludes River City Open; reaches 500 members

The River City Pickleball Club concluded their final day of play in their three-day River City Open competition. The tournament had around 300 participants from multiple states compete in the competition.

River City Pickleball Club was created in March of 2019, and over the weekend they welcomed their 500th member of the club. The club is open to any and all members of all ages and skill levels.

The River City Open was a doubles tournament held from October 27-29 at Merchant Center Court. The tournament was hosted by top ranked professional pickleball player Altaf Merchant, and it consisted of divisions based on both age and self-determined skill level ranging from 3.0 to 5.0. The men’s and women’s 50+ competitions were held the first day, the men’s and women’s 19+ were held on Saturday and the mixed open competition was held Sunday. 

The winners from each division were awarded with a trophy, and the 5.0 divisions played for cash prizes of upwards of $1,000 as well. The winners of each division along with photos and livestreams of the competitions can be found on the River City Pickleball Club’s Facebook page.  

Before the tournament, the club held a clinic that was taught by Merchant. Merchant is a member of River City Pickleball Club and donated all the money made from the clinic to Casa of Ohio Valley.
