Owensboro looks to extend their win streak to four at home Thursday against Muhlenberg County while Apollo and Daviess County take to the road Friday to face off against Madisonville-North Hopkins and Christian County respectively.
Muhlenberg County, 3-4 (Class 5A, District 1)
at Owensboro, 4-3 (Class 5A, District 1)
Highlights
Owensboro is coming into this game off a blowout victory from last week. Big playmakers like Dereon Crowe and Evan Hampton will be key to overwhelming Muhlenberg who have been struggling recently.

Coach’s thoughts
Owensboro head coach Jay Fallin:
Muhlenberg County is a triple option team, which means if we aren’t assignment strong they can make us pay. Especially the quarterback because he is athletic, a good runner and is tough to stop once he gets going. Madisonville really struggled to contain him last week, we will need to do better than they did. We need to continue to do the things we’ve done- execute in all three phases and play hard and clean for 48 minutes.
Daviess County, 1-5 (Class 6A, District 1)
at Christian County, (Class 6A, District 1)
Highlights
Daviess County got their first win of the season in their last game, and to keep it going they’ll have to repeat the success they had on offense. Christian County are coming into the game off of a blowout defeat, so Daviess County can’t underestimate them if they are to get a second win in a row.
Last game
Daviess County: Won 34-12 against Warren Central
Christian County: Lost 55-0 against Bowling Green
Coach’s thoughts
Daviess County head coach Matt Brannon:
Christian County plays a very aggressive style of defense with eight or nine guys at the line of scrimmage all night, which can pose a threat to us and our run game. We are going to have to be able to stretch the ball down the field to get their defense to soften up and open up some running lanes. They also have athletes all over the field, so we will have to be aware of their playmakers at all times. For us, we had a lot of momentum going into our bye week last week, and we were able to begin preparation for Christian County immediately after our win against Warren Central. We have been preaching to our players about setting goals daily and taking little steps to achieve those goals. Our focus for the last two weeks has been 1-0 in the district. If we can execute our game plan and tackle well in space, it should be a good night for us!
Apollo, 1-6 (Class 5A, District 1)
at Madisonville-North Hopkins, 5-2 (Class 5A, District 1)
Highlights
Penalty trouble cost Apollo a win last week, so this week they will need to limit their mistakes if they want a chance at beating this 5-2 Madisonville squad. Apollo will need to build up steam on offense early and stay tight on defense against Madisonville’s aggressive offense.
Last game
Apollo: Lost 14-7 against Graves County
Madisonville-North Hopkins: Won 56-37 against Muhlenberg
Coach’s thoughts
Apollo head coach John Edge:
Madisonville has a really good team. Their quarterback Kayden Johnson is a good athlete. We have to keep getting better all week in practice if we want to win games.
