The final gameday of the regular season is upon us and Owensboro will be fighting to break a three-way tie between them, Graves County and Madisonville. Apollo and Daviess County highlight this week in what is sure to be an exciting city-county rivalry match. Owensboro takes on Henderson County at home while Owensboro Catholic takes to the road in hopes to complete their undefeated season against North Hardin.

Daviess County, 4-5 (Class 6A, District 1)
at Apollo, (Class 5A, District 1)

Highlights

After an eventful week 10 saw Apollo secure their spot in the playoffs and Daviess County earn the right to host North Hardin next week, both teams will come into this game with a weight lifted from their shoulders. With this being a rivalry matchup however, neither team will take this week lightly.

Last week

Daviess County: Won 14-6 against McCracken County

Apollo: Won 30-13 against Marshall County

Coaches thoughts

Apollo head coach John Edge:

This is a rivalry game. Records are out the window. Nobody cares what happened last year or 10 years ago. We need to finish strong with a win before the playoffs. I think both teams are looking for that.

Luke Floyd has started at quarterback the last 3 games. Which means their best football player touches the ball every play.

Daviess County head coach Matt Brannon:

We’ve had several weeks in a row where we were much more competitive, more efficient on offense and played great defense, so I’d like to see that continue.

Apollo throws the ball very well. They’ve got a good young quarterback that we’ve got to be aware of. He extends the play with his feet. We’ve got to be disciplined in the secondary and stay in coverage. The type of play that can get you in trouble is when he starts scrambling around and comes out of coverage. Max can hit those guys on the run so we have to be aware of that. I want to see us continue to be efficient on the ball, run the ball and eliminate our turnovers. That’s gotten us into some trouble, so if we eliminate our offensive turnovers then we’ll be in good shape.

Henderson County, 4-5 (Class 6A, District 1)
at Owensboro, 5-4 (Class 5A, District 1)

Highlights

Owensboro currently sits in a three-way tie with Graves and Madisonville for first place in the district. The tie will be settled based on each team’s RPI, so the outcome of this game against Henderson will play a big part in what seed Owensboro ends up as.

Last week

Henderson: Won 64-32 against Christian County

Owensboro: Lost 38-45 against Madisonville-North Hopkins

Coach’s thoughts

Owensboro head coach Jay Fallin:

The three way tie will be decided by RPI. Right now we hold the slight edge, but we need to win on Friday to put ourselves in the best possible position. Now is the time that we must be playing our best football. We are treating this game like a playoff game, and beginning next Friday it’s win or go home. We have to bring our best every play. Offense, defense, and special teams.

Henderson is a tough, well coached football team. They are athletic, big and aggressive. We will need to be sharp in all 3 phases.

Owensboro Catholic, 9-0 (Class 2A, District 2)
at North Hardin, 1-7 (Class 6A, District 2)

Highlights

The final regular season game will determine if Owensboro Catholic can complete the full regular season undefeated. The team all around has been in great form, so the odds are in their favor to close out a historic season.

Last week

Owensboro Catholic: Won 56-7 against Fort Campbell

North Hardin: Won 49-16 against Warren Central

Coach’s thoughts

Owensboro Catholic head coach Jason Morris:

I want to see a four quarter complete game of discipline and execution. North Hardin has speed all over the field, and especially at wide receiver.

This game is great prep because we have to get up and play another big game right after winning the district championship last week. We’ll have to do that over and over in the playoffs.
