Daviess County dominated Grayson County 10-0 to advance to the 3rd Region Championships. They will face off against Ohio County who eliminated last year’s champions Owensboro Catholic in a close 2-1 match in the first round.

The Lady Panthers started off immediately with a strong offensive presence as they scored in the first four minutes of the game. Madison Purcell scored the first of many goals from a low cross by Molly Floyd. Playing the ball out wide and then swinging in a low cross was the focus for the offense tonight as well as being aggressive up top, Floyd said.

“We’re confident in our attack and offense is the best defense,” she said. “It’s good when you get a good cross off and somebody is there to finish it. Those are good goals to get.”

The Lady Panthers were too much to handle for Grayson as they dominated in all aspects for the rest of the match. They quickly ran up the score to 9-0 by the halftime whistle. The final goal was scored by Kate McCain who ran onto a loose ball in the box.

The other Lady Panthers on the scoresheet were Floyd who led the team with four goals and an assist, Purcell with two goals and an assist, Lillian Coombs with a goal and an assist, Amal Kalik with one goal and Johana Pedro Gaspar with one goal. McCain also had one assist alongside Jasey Stearsman who also had an assist.

Looking ahead to their championship match, head coach David Sandifer said that Ohio will be a tough opponent that they will have to play hard to beat for the title.

“We know that Ohio County is a physical and aggressive team, and they won their way here like we did. We’re gonna have to play well like they’re gonna have to, and hopefully we’ll be fortunate enough to come out ahead. It’s a regional championship so expect it to be a battle.”

The 3rd Regional Girls’ Championship is at 7 p.m. on October 11 at Owensboro Catholic.
