Daviess County grabbed a win over Hancock County to kick off the week, while the Lady Aces topped Trinity (Whitesville) at home and Apollo fell short against the Lady Colonels on Tuesday.
Apollo vs Henderson County
The E-gals were unable to string together runs on Tuesday, leading to a 6-0 home loss to Henderson County.
The Lady Colonels set the tone for the game early, grabbing a pair of runs in the top of the first. Henderson County went on to do so in the third and fifth inning as well, using six hits to grab six runs in the game.
Apollo was able to rack up seven hits on the night, but was unable to come through with runners in scoring position and ultimately lost 7-0. Senior Emmie Bullington took the loss in her three-inning start, allowing four earned runs on five hits and four walks while striking out three.
The E-gals fall to 13-11 with the loss, as they now look to bounce back on the road against Breckinridge County at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
Owensboro Catholic vs Trinity (Whitesville)
The Lady Aces came out on top in a 3rd Region battle with Trinity (Whitesville) on Tuesday, grabbing a 7-0 win at home.
Owensboro Catholic jumped ahead early, getting the first run of the game with a leadoff home run from senior Bailey Hamilton in the bottom of the first. The Lady Aces kept their foot on the gas in the bottom of the second as well, getting a run on an RBI double from senior Abbie Dukate, a two-run single from Bailey Hamilton and a two-run home run from senior Brooke Hamilton to take a 6-0 lead after two.
Owensboro Catholic proceeded to get one more run in the bottom of the fifth as well, while Bailey Hamilton and freshman Hannah Robbins led the way in the circle to defeat the Lady Raiders 7-0.
Bailey pitched the first five innings of the win, allowing just three hits while striking out four. Robbins tossed the other two innings, allowing a pair of hits while striking out two. Bailey also led the way at the plate with three RBIs, while Brooke had a pair and Abbie Dukate had one.
Senior Allie Graham took the loss in her two-inning start for Trinity, allowing six earned runs on six hits and one walk. Seventh grader Sophie Hatfield pitched the last four innings in relief, allowing one earned run on three hits, one walk and a pair of strikeouts.
Owensboro Catholic improves to 20-8 overall with the win, as they’ll look to grab their third straight win against South Warren at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lady Raiders now sit at 12-17 overall with the loss, as they’ll look to bounce back against Union County at 6 p.m. on Friday.
Daviess County vs Hancock County
The Lady Panthers were clicking on all cylinders Tuesday, getting strong pitching performances from freshman Sophia Cain and senior Raylee Roby in a 7-1 win over Hancock County.
The Lady Hornets jumped on the board in the to[ of the first with an RBI double, but Daviess County evened things right back up in the bottom of the first with a two-out RBI single from freshman Briley Henry. Cain then wrapped up her day in the circle with a scoreless second inning, finishing her two-inning start having allowed just one run and one hit.
Roby then handled the last five innings of play, giving up no runs and no hits while striking out 10. The Lady Panthers offense followed, as they grabbed six more runs over the last three innings of play en route to the 7-1 win.
Senior Alexis Jackson led the way at the plate with a pair of RBIs, while senior Kayley Payne, senior Jessie Daniels, Henry and sophomore Sadie Morris all had one RBI each. Daviess County moves to 22-4 overall with the win, as they now have a day off before taking on Evansville Mater Dei in a home game at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
