Trinity (Whitesville) suffered a tough loss to Breckinridge County to start the week, while the Lady Panthers put together a complete team effort to top Madisonville-North Hopkins on Monday.
Daviess County vs Madisonville-North Hopkins
The Lady Panthers steady offense and pitching led to their 10th straight win on Monday, topping Madisonville-North Hopkins at home 7-1.
Daviess County struck first with a run on a sac fly from freshman Callie Smith in the bottom of the first, with a two-run home run in the bottom of the second from sophomore Sadie Morris giving them an early 3-0 lead. The Lady Panthers didn’t skip a beat the rest of the way either, peppering in four more runs while senior Raylee Roby finished her complete-game start by allowing one run on two hits and four walks while striking out five en route to the 7-1 victory.
Morris and freshman Briley Henry led the way at the plate with a pair of RBIs each, while senior Jessie Daniels, freshman Annie Newmand and Smith all had one each. Daviess County improves to 19-2 overall with the win, as they now look ahead to a road matchup with Heritage Hills at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Trinity (Whitesville) vs Breckinridge County
A rough start to their road matchup cost the Lady Raiders on Monday, as a slew of free bases and hits led to a 5-3 loss to Breckinridge County.
Trinity (Whitesville) was in hot water straight out of the gate, as a pair of walks and an error plated the first run of the game for the Lady Tigers in the bottom of the first. A hit by pitch then loaded the bases, as a two-run double, another Lady Raiders error and an RBI single led to four runs and a 5-0 lead for Breckinridge County going into the second inning.
Trinity loaded the bases themselves to start the top of the fourth with one down, but an RBI groundout from senior Allie Barnett and a two-run single from junior Kylie Hatifield was all they got—ultimately leading to a 5-3 loss in a complete-game pitching performance by the Lady Tigers senior Kaylee Ball (eight strikeouts).
Barnett didn’t have her best stuff in her start, pitching a third of an inning and allowing four earned runs on a pair of hits and walks. Senior Allie Graham followed with the final 5 ⅔ innings pitched, striking out a pair and allowing no runs on six hits and no walks.
The Lady Raiders fall to 11-16 overall with the loss, as they will now look to bounce back in a home matchup with Ohio County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
