Daviess County topped a pair of state-ranked teams this weekend, while the Lady Aces caught fire to wrap up an impressive weekend with an All-A State Championship.

Daviess County vs Assumption, Lafayette

There was no shortage of offense for the Lady Panthers on Saturday, as they rattled off a combined 16 runs on the day to top Lafayette and Assumption.

Daviess County started the day off strong, getting a two-run home run from senior Jessie Daniels in the bottom of the first and a run in the bottom of the second on a fielder’s choice to take a 3-1 lead into the third. A big two-out rally in the bottom of the fifth helped the Lady Panthers grab four more runs, helping lead the way to a 7-2 win over Lafayette.

Freshman Sophia Cain also threw a gem in the circle, allowing one earned run on five hits and two walks while striking out nine in the win. Daniels led the way at the plate with three RBIs, while sophomore Sadie Morris, freshman Annie Newman, freshman Callie Smith, senior Kaitlyn Hill all had an RBI each.

Daviess County didn’t skip a beat against Assumption either, starting with another home run from Daniels in the bottom of the first—this time to center to make it a 3-0 game heading into the second. The Lady Panthers went on to grab six more runs in the contest, while senior Raylee Roby delivered a complete-game performance to defeat Assumption 9-1.

Roby struck out five in the win, allowing just one unearned run on three hits and no walks. Daniels led the way at the plate again with four more RBIs, while Morris added a pair and Newman and freshman Molly Hancock had one each.

Daviess County improves to 18-2 overall with the pair of wins over state-ranked teams on Saturday, now looking ahead to a home matchup with Madisonville-North Hopkins at 6 p.m. on Monday.

Owensboro Catholic vs Bethlehem, Lynn Camp, Paintsville

The Lady Aces were firing on all cylinders this weekend, as their efforts led to an All-A State Championship.

The Lady Aces got off to a scorching hot start to the weekend, topping Bethlehem 8-1 and Lynn Camp 13-1 on Saturday. Senior Addison Tingor led the way offensively with six RBIs in the pair of games, while junior Ruth Jones had five, senior Bailey Hamilton had four and senior Ashten Tignor, junior Maci Merritt, senior Kira Edwards and eighth grader Maren Riney all had one.

A 7-2 win over Paintsville rounded out Saturday for Owensboro Catholic, with Brooke Hamilton, Bailey Hamilton and freshman Hannah Robbins all picked up wins in the circle. The Lady Aces picked up right where they left off on Sunday as well, getting a complete-game 11 strikeout performance from Brooke Hamilton to top Holy Cross 3-0.

It was an RBI single from Ruth Jones, a run scoring on a passed ball and an RBI single from sophomore Tyranda Stuart that got the job done offensively. Hamilton struck 11 the very next game as well, helping Owensboro Catholic reach the All A State Championship with a 5-2 win over Bracken County.

The Lady Aces were able to win the championship over Bethlehem 7-1—beating them for the second time this weekend—thanks to three runs in the bottom of the fourth and four in the bottom of the fifth. Stuart and sophomore Hannah Tignor led the way in the championship win with a pair of RBIs each, while Edwards, Merritt and Brooke Hamilton all had one as well.

Hamilton continued her strong stretch of pitching performances in the win also, allowing the one unearned run on three hits and two walks while striking out six. Owensboro Catholic improves to 16-7 overall on the season with the win, as they now look ahead to a home matchup with South Spencer at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
