The Kentucky Wesleyan College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be putting on a field day for the kids of Owensboro this Sunday, April 16th.
SAAC is comprised of two athletes from each sport on Wesleyan’s campus and gives student athletes the opportunity to shape the landscape of intercollegiate athletics. The committee has recently been recognized for their outstanding community service work, as they began the school year having just been awarded the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Community Engagement Award for 2021. This award recognizes the top institution within the conference for their service and engagement within both their community and campus.
SAAC’s next initiative is Field Day With The Panthers which will give all kindergarten through fifth-grade students in Owensboro the chance to experience a day full of fun with the athletes of Kentucky Wesleyan College.
The festivities will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Steele Stadium and end at 4 p.m. Kids will be put into groups for various different games and stations throughout the afternoon. Each station will feature a different activity such as kickball, wiffleball, soccer, dodgeball, capture the flag, etc. Each station will be manned by members of Wesleyan sports teams. Multiple first-aid certified individuals will be in attendance as well as access to the college’s head athletic trainer. Lunch will also be provided for all attendees.
KWC SAAC President Wiley Cain, who used to serve as the G-MAC SAAC President and the National SAAC Chair over all of Division II, expressed how excited the committee and campus are to reach the community with this event.
“We are really looking for a fun way to connect with kids in the community and would be excited to see a large turnout at the event this Sunday,” Cain said.
