Daviess County and Trinity (Whitesville) were dominant in all facets of their respective wins on Tuesday, while senior Brooke Hamilton and the Lady Aces narrowly defeated Muhlenberg County to stay undefeated to start the season.
Daviess County vs Muhlenberg County
The Lady Panthers put together a strong pitching performance with a strong day at the plate on Tuesday, bouncing back with a 7-1 home win over Muhlenberg County.
Daviess County got a gem from freshman Sophia Cain in the circle, having held the Lady Mustangs hitless through 5 ⅓ innings and finishing the day with 10 strikeouts. Eighth grader Kamryn Timmons handled the rest of the game, earning four strikeouts in relief.
Senior Jessie Daniels and freshman Callie Smith led the way at the plate with a pair of hits and an RBI each on the day, while senior Kaitlyn Hill also chipped in an RBI with her inside-the-park home run. The Lady Panthers improve to 6-1 overall with the win, as they look to keep things going in their district opener against Owensboro at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Trinity (Whitesville) vs Warren Central
The Lady Raiders were firing on all cylinders on Tuesday, taking advantage of a barrage of errors while tallying double-digit hits in a 15-0 win over Warren Central.
Trinity (Whitesville) wasted no time getting to work at the plate, as senior Abby Payne’s RBI double, seventh grader Sophie Hatfield’s RBI triple and seventh grader Ella Morris’ RBI groundout gave them a 3-0 lead after the top of the first. The Lady Raiders never looked back either, grabbing five runs in the top of the third and seven in the top of the fourth en route to a 15-0 road win.
Senior Allie Graham tossed a gem in return for the offensive support, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out three in the four-inning shutout. Morris led the way at the plate with three RBIs on the day, while Hatfield and Payne had two each and sophomore Madison McDaniel and sophomore Hope Boarman had one each.
Trinity (Whitesville) improves to 3-5 overall with the win, as they’ll look to keep rolling against Butler County at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
Owensboro Catholic vs Evansville Mater Dei
The Lady Aces came out on top in a pitcher’s duel on Tuesday night, as senior Brooke Hamilton nearly tossed a no-hitter in the 1-0 win over Evansville Mater Dei.
Neither team had a big day offensively, as Owensboro Catholic grabbed four hits in the game. Evansville managed to get just one though, as Brooke struck out 12 and only walked two in the complete-game performance.
She was also responsible for the only run of the game, as she delivered a one-out sacrifice fly in the top of the third after two walks to start the inning. The Lady Aces improve to 5-0 overall with the win, as they will now take a few days off before competing in the Softball Beach Bash against Madison Central at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 2.
