The Lady Raiders and Lady Devils couldn’t find a rhythm early on offense, as their comeback attempts fell short in the respective losses to Ohio and Breckinridge County.

Trinity vs Ohio County

The Lady Raiders nearly completed a comeback win on Friday after a slow start, but couldn’t hang on in the fourth and fell to Ohio County at home 61-55.

Trinity struggled offensively out of the gates, being held to just two baskets in the first quarter. The Lady Eagles on the other hand got 12 points from Ella Decker in the quarter and built an 18-4 lead heading into the second.

A trio of threes kept Ohio County rolling in the second, but the Lady Raiders had turned things around and were able to shrink their deficit. Led by YEAR Sarah Payne’s six points from the charity’s stripe in the quarter, Trinity found themselves trailing 31-18 at halftime.

Payne stayed hot coming out of the locker room, grabbing eight more while senior Josie Aull went for nine in the quarter. With contributions from others as well the Lady Raiders exploded for 26 points, helping them claim a 44-42 lead going into the fourth.

But Trinity wasn’t able to sustain that offensive success, as they were outscored 17-11 in the fourth and ultimately lost 61-55. Payne finished with 16 points to lead the Lady Raiders, while Aull added 15 and sophomore Kenzie McDowell chipped in 10.

Trinity falls to 3-20 overall with the loss, as they’ll look to flip the script in their Friday night home game against Grayson County at 6 p.m.

Owensboro vs Breckinridge County

Early offensive struggles were the Lady Devils’ demise on Monday, as they couldn’t climb up the hill in the second half and fell to Breckinridge County 53-39 at home.

Owensboro struggled to find a rhythm and barely cracked double figures in the first quarter, but they were able to limit the Lady Tigers and trail by just 13-10 heading into the second. But it was there that the Lady Devils were only able to get four points in the quarter—all from junior guard A’Lyrica Hughes—while Breckinridge County expanded its lead to 24-14 heading into the locker room.

Coming out of halftime Owensboro was able to bounce back, but they didn’t have an answer for the Lady Tigers and narrowly outscored in the third en route to a 40-28 deficit going into the fourth. The Lady Devils’ struggles continued to close out the night as well, as Breckinridge County had their number again offensively and held on for the 53-39 win.

Hughes was the only player to score more than six with 10 points on the night, as Owensboro fell to 16-8 overall. With back-to-back losses under their belt the Lady Devils won’t have it easy trying to break the losing streak, as they are set for the last regular season district matchup against Owensboro Catholic on the road Friday at 6 p.m.
