The Lady Aces bounced back in the second half of a narrow win over Whitefield Academy on Thursday, while the Lady Raiders and the Lady Devils closed out the regular season with tough losses to Caldwell County and South Warren respectively.

Owensboro Catholic vs Whitefield Academy

It was a tale of two halves for the Lady Aces on Thursday, as they were able to turn things around in the second half to claim a 50-44 win over Whitefield Academy.

Owensboro Catholic didn’t get off to a great start, getting to single digits in the opening quarter and giving up eight threes in the first half—with four of them coming from Camryn Poole—en route to a 30-22 deficit at halftime. But in the second half Whitefield Academy was held to single digits, while the Lady Aces hit seven threes to earn the comeback 50-44 win.

Owensboro Catholic hit 11 threes in the game, with sophomore Karmin Riley accounting for five of them and leading the Lady Aces with 17 points. Junior Hailee Johnson was the only other player in double figures with 13, knocking down three from deep herself.

Snapping a four-game losing streak, Owensboro Catholic now sits at 19-9 overall going into their regular season finale at home on Friday against Breckinridge County at 7 p.m.

Trinity (Whitesville) vs Caldwell County

Offensive struggles in the fourth quarter led to the Lady Raiders loss at home to close out the regular season, falling to Caldwell County 53-36 on Thursday.

Trinity (Whitesville) had battled back and forth with the Lady Tigers throughout the game, finding themselves down 38-31 heading into the fourth. The Lady Raiders didn’t have any luck forming a comeback in the fourth though, being held to single digits while eighth grader Med Thomas scored six of Caldwell County’s points en route to the 53-36 win.

Sophomore Kenzie McDowell and senior Josie Aull were the only players in double figures for Trinity with 10 points each, while sophomore Sarah Payne followed close behind with nine. The Lady Raiders finish the regular season at 3-24 overall, as they will now have the weekend to prepare for their first round 12th District matchup with Butler County at 6 p.m.

Owensboro vs South Warren

Offensive struggles in the opening and closing quarters of the contest was the Lady Devils downfall on Thursday, as they couldn’t find a rhythm and fell to South Warren 48-34.

Owensboro got off to a slow start with a single-digit order to open up the ballgame to fall behind 12-8, but were able to return the favor in the second to keep within distance trailing 18-13 at halftime. Junior A’Lyrica Hughes tried to help get the Lady Devils over the hump with eight points in the third, but they couldn’t slow down South Warren and went into the fourth down 36-27.

Owensboro’s luck didn’t get any better either, being limited to single digits in the fourth and ultimately falling to South Warren 48-34. Hughes was the only player to finish in double figures with 12 points in the regular season finale loss.

Sitting at 18-9 overall heading into the postseason, the Lady Devils now have the weekend to prepare for their first-round 9th District matchup against Apollo at 6 p.m. on Monday.
