The Lady Aces, E-gals and Lady Panthers were unable to muster up enough offense on Saturday, falling in their respective losses to Bowling Green, Hopkins County Central and Elizabethtown.

Owensboro Catholic vs Bowling Green

A rough second quarter would be the deciding factor on Saturday, as the Lady Aces fell just short in a 55-54 road loss to Bowling Green.

Owensboro Catholic got off to a solid start, as sophomore Karmin Riley (five), junior Hailee Johnson (four), sophomore Jaiden Grant (four) and senior Maddie Hayden (two) led them to a 15-10 lead after the first quarter. The Lady Aces didn’t have the same luck offensively in the second though, getting held to single digits while Tanaya Bailey (eight) and sophomore Katy Smiley (six) both hit a pair of threes to help the Purples take a 26-24 lead into halftime.

Owensboro Catholic kept fighting coming out of the locker room, getting six points from Hayden and five points from Grant to help them reclaim the lead at 38-36 going into the fourth. The Lady Aces were able to stay strong and grab 16 points in the final quarter, but senior Saniyah Shelton scored 12 of Bowling Green’s 19 points to help them secure the 55-54 win.

The Purples had four players finish in double figures, while Hayden and Johnson finished with 16 and 14 points respectively for Owensboro Catholic. Three straight losses have the Lady Aces sitting at 18-8 overall, as they will look to bounce back against Henderson County at 7 p.m. on Monday.

Apollo vs Hopkins County Central

The E-gals didn’t have an answer defensively for Hopkins County Central on Saturday, as it led to a 69-54 road loss to close out the week.

Apollo got off to a hot start offensively, as freshman Kennedy Lane led the way with 11 points en route to a 21-12 lead after the first quarter. It wasn’t sustained success for the E-gals though, as they were held to single digits while Brooklyn Clark grabbed eight points to help Hopkins County Central cut their deficit to 30-27 going into the locker room.

Following halftime Apollo had a decent quarter offensively, but they couldn’t slow down Clark and senior Emile Jones who grabbed 10 points each in a 26-point quarter that put the Lady Storm out in front 53-42 after the third. This continued to be the case in the fourth, with Clark and Jones adding six more each to complete the 69-54 win over the E-gals.

Clark finished with 24 points and Jones finished with 18 to lead Hopkins County Central, while freshman Kennedy Lane led all scorers with 28 on the night for Apollo. The E-gals fall to 7-20 overall with their fifth straight loss, as they will look to bounce back against Breckinridge County at 7 p.m. at home on Monday to start the final week of the regular season.

Daviess County vs Elizabethtown

A monster second half from senior Sarah Clark and Elizabethtown was the deciding factor on Saturday, as the Lady Panthers fell on the road 72-59.

Sophomore Zoey Beehn and senior Adylan Ayer almost single handedly led the Lady Panthers offense with 12 points and nine points respectively in the first half, but it wasn’t enough as they narrowly trailed 27-25 at halftime. Daviess County matched their second quarter production coming out of the locker room, but Clark grabbed 12 of Elizabethtown’s 23 points as they went up 50-39 heading into the fourth.

Ayer (eight) and Beehn (seven) combined for 15 of the team’s 20 in the fourth to try and bring them within distance, but Clark had 10 more of her 29 points in the final quarter as she led Elizabethtown to the 72-59 win on Saturday.

Ayer finished with 24 points and Beehn added 22, with no other player scoring more than six and typical starting freshman Briley Henry not dressing. The Lady Panthers fall to 13-15 overall with the loss, as they’ll look to turn things around on Monday when they hit the road to take on Trinity (Whitesville) at 7:30 p.m.
