Trinity (Whitesville) was clicking on all cylinders on Tuesday with a strong offensive performance en route to a win, while Apollo and Daviess County couldn’t muster up enough offense in their respective losses.

Trinity vs Union County

The Raiders had four players finish in double figures on Tuesday, with a monster performance from senior Landon Huff leading the way to a 77-64 win over Union County.

Trinity (Whitesville) got off to a slow start, narrowly cracking double digits while Izaiah Manuel (10) and Kris Hughes (eight) combined for all but three of the Braves points en route to a 21-11 lead after the first. Seniors Landon Huff (12) and Landon Smith (eight) took turning things around into their own hands in the second, combining for 20 points as the Raiders cut their deficit to 34-33 at halftime.

Huff stayed hot coming out of the locker room as well, tallying 13 of Trinity’s 21 points to help them take a 54-50 lead into the fourth. Huff was limited to three points the following quarter, but senior Nate Hernandez and sophomore Hayden Aull chipped in seven each to help the Raiders on a 77-64 win.

Huff led all scorers with 33 points on the night, while Smith had 15, Hernandez had 12 and Aull had 10. Trinity improves to 12-13 overall with the win, as they now look ahead to a district matchup with Grayson County on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Apollo vs Hancock County

Apollo struggled to find a rhythm offensively on Tuesday, leading to a 61-39 loss to Hancock County at home and extending their losing streak to four.

Hancock County took control of the game right away, as the Eagles were held to single digits while Evan Ferry scored eight points and led the Hornets to a 12-6 lead after the first quarter. Apollo turned things around with four threes in the second—getting from a pair senior Zjhan Tutt and scoring eight points in the quarter—but Devyn Powers grabbed seven points to lead Hancock County to a 32-22 halftime lead.

The Eagles offensive struggles returned coming out of the locker room as well, being held to five points and heading into the fourth down 47-27. The Hornets didn’t slow down in the fourth either, outscoring Apollo and wrapping up the 61-39 win.

Powers led all scorers with 24 points, while Kaleb Keown and Ferry followed with 15 and 14 points respectively. Tutt was the only player to score in double figures for the Eagles, finishing with 16 points on the night.

Apollo falls to 4-20 overall with the loss, as they now have a few days to prepare and try to grab their only regular season district win of the year in a road matchup with Daviess County on Friday at 7 p.m.

Daviess County vs McLean County

Despite leading for the vast majority of the game, a monster fourth quarter from the Cougars led to a 65-64 comeback loss for Daviess County on the road Tuesday.

Both teams struggled mightily on offense in the first quarter, as the Panthers managed to take a narrow 9-5 lead into the second. Daviess County picked up steam in the second though, as junior Gage Phelps grabbed eight of the team’s 21 points to help them take a 30-23 halftime lead.

Phelps kept the Panthers rolling in the third with eight more points as well, helping grow their lead to 46-37 heading into the fourth. But it was then that McLean County’s offense caught steam, as Jaxon Floyd grabbed 10 of a whopping 28 points for the Cougars as they outscored Daviess County to grab the comeback 65-64 win.

Floyd led all scorers on the night with 26 points, while Brodie Cline and Gunnar Revelett grabbed 12 points each. Phelps led the Panthers with 21 points, while Evan Hillard had 11 points and Jack Payne, Ayden Ayer and Houston Oberst all had eight points each.

Daviess County falls to 10-14 overall with the loss, as they will now look to bounce back in the regular season district finale against Apollo at home on Friday at 7 p.m.
