Trinity dominated the Eagles in the second half of a 20-plus point win on Saturday, while senior Brian Griffith led the Aces past Warren East in the fourth quarter en route to a three-point win.

Apollo vs Trinity (Whitesville)

The Raiders offense caught fire on Saturday, stifling Apollo in the second half of a 69-45 road win to close out the week.

It was a slow start for both teams out of the gate, but four points for senior Zjhan Tutt and three points for senior Donte Dixon had the Eagles leading 7-6 going into the second quarter. Sophomore Kobe Kelly (seven) and senior Jaxon Hardin (six) kept Apollo rolling in the following quarter, helping them claim a 24-20 halftime lead.

Trinity (Whitesville) came out of the locker room clicking on all cylinders though, as senior Landon Huff (nine), senior Nate Hernandez (seven) and senior Landon Smith (four) led them to a 40-37 lead heading into the fourth. The Eagles were held to single digits in the fourth as well, while Huff tallied 12 of the team’s 29 to lead the Raiders to a 69-45 win.

Huff led all scorers with 28 points on Saturday, while Hernandez followed with 14. Trinity advances to 14-13 overall with the win, as they will take a three-game winning streak into a tough road matchup against Travis Perry—who recently eclipsed the 4,000-point career mark in his junior season— and Lyon County on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Apollo on the other hand falls to 4-22 overall with the loss, with Hardin serving as the only player in double figures with 12 points. The Eagles will look to snap their six-game losing streak against Muhlenberg County on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Owensboro Catholic vs Warren East

A strong fourth quarter and another monstrous showing from senior Brian Griffith led the Aces to a fourth straight win on Saturday, as they defeated Warren East 72-69.

Owensboro Catholic had a strong night throughout the game offensively, but still found themselves trailing 48-45 heading into the fourth. It was there that Isaiah Andrews grabbed 14 of his 29 points in the final quarter, but Griffith grabbed 15 of the Aces’ 27 points in the fourth to help earn a 72-69 comeback win.

Griffith led all scorers on the night with 31 points, while senior Parker Gray added 15 points and sophomore Luke Beickman (10). The four-game winning streak pushes Owensboro Catholic to 24-3 overall, as they look to keep things rolling in a road matchup with Breckinridge County on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
