A strong third quarter for the E-gals wound up being the deciding factor in a narrow home win on senior night, defeating Warren Central 49-47 to snap their six-game losing streak.
The two teams traded buckets back and forth in the first half, but the Lady Dragons had a slight edge at halftime up 29-22 thanks to Dee Dee Robinson (10), Aida Akhmedova (eight) and Jaliya Bailey’s (seven) combined 25 points. But Apollo hit three from deep coming out of the locker room—one coming from sophomore Gizelle Whitlock’s nine points in the quarter—while limiting Warren Central to 10 to take a 41-39 lead into the fourth.
The E-gals struggled in the fourth on offense with just eight points, but luckily for them they’d held the Lady Dragons to eight too in order to come away with the 49-47 win. Whitlock led Apollo with 15 points in the contest, while junior Jennifer Lee had 13, freshman Abby Sapp had 10 and freshman Kennedy Lane had nine.
The E-gals improve to 8-21 overall with the win, as they will look to keep things going on Thursday in a home matchup against Madisonville-North Hopkins at 7 p.m.
