The Lady Devils rough second half led to a tough loss to 3rd Region powerhouse Meade County on Tuesday, while the Lady Aces, E-gals, Lady Panthers and Lady Raiders all grabbed wins in their respective matchups.
Owensboro Catholic vs Madisonville-North Hopkins
The Lady Aces bounced back from a tough loss to McCracken County on Tuesday, showing out on both ends of the floor in a strong 65-42 win over Madisonville-North Hopkins.
Owensboro Catholic got off to a strong start by limiting the Lady Maroons to five points, while sophomore Aubrey Randolph scored nine points to lead them to a 13-5 lead going into the second. She added six more alongside junior Hailee Johnson’s six to help the Lady Aces build their lead to 32-16 at halftime.
Owensboro Catholic stayed hot coming out of the locker room, having its strongest quarter with 21 points in the third to make it a 53-31 game going into the fourth. With more than enough momentum on their side, the Lady Aces outscored Madisonville-North Hopkins in the fourth consecutive quarter to secure the 65-42 win.
Randolph led all scorers with 21 points on the night, while Johnson added 12 and sophomore Karmin Riley added 11. Owensboro Catholic now sits at 14-4 with the win, as they will look to continue their winning ways in a road district matchup with Apollo at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
Apollo vs Evansville Bosse
The trio of freshman Kennedy Lane, sophomore Gizelle Whitlock and junior Jennifer Lee were on fire Tuesday, leading the E-gals with all but five of the team’s points in a 65-25 win over Evansville Bosse.
Lane led all scorers with a whopping 32 points on the night, hitting seven threes in the process. Whitlock added 17 and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Lee added 11 points and 12 rebounds in the win.
Apollo moves to 6-13 overall with the win, now taking a few days to prepare for a tough district matchup with Owensboro Catholic at 5:30 p.m. at home on Friday.
Daviess County vs Christian County
A strong start defensively paired with a balanced offensive attack throughout led the Lady Panthers to a win on Tuesday, defeating Christian County at 66-55 at home.
It was a slow start for both teams in the contest, as Daviess County had the slim upper hand and went into the second up 10-9. Sophomores Zoey Beehn and Emme Roberts helped kickstart the Lady Panthers offense with seven each in the second, while senior Adylan Ayer chipped in five to help them take a 29-24 halftime lead.
Daviess County didn’t let up offensively out of the locker room either, as Ayer grabbed 11 with a pair of threes to make it a 48-37 game heading into the fourth. Freshman Anaysia Bagwell (seven) and senior Evanna McGregor (five) combined for 12 points in the fourth to finish the night with 20 and 15 respectively, but it was too little too late as Ayer tallied eight more to lead all scorers with 29 points and secure the 66-55 win for the Lady Panthers in front of their home crowd.
Behind Ayer, Roberts and Beehn also finished in double figures with 14 and 11 respectively. The Lady Panthers improves to 9-11 overall with the win, now having a day break before hitting the road to take on Breckinridge County at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Trinity (Whitesville) vs Cloverport
The Lady Raiders grabbed their second straight win of the season on Tuesday, controlling both ends of the floor in a 53-19 win over Cloverport.
Trinity (Whitesville) set the tone for the game early, holding Cloverport to single digits in the opening quarter to take a 15-5 lead. The Lady Raiders kept their foot on the gas in the second, keeping Cloverport scoreless and having their best quarter of the night offensively en route to a 34-5 halftime lead.
With an insurmountable lead Trinity outscored Cloverport 17-16 in the second half, walking away with the 53-19 win. Sophomore Sarah Payne led the way with 13 points, while sophomore Madison McDaniel added 11, Aull added 11 and sophomore Kenzie McDowell added nine.
The Lady Raiders improve to 2-14 with the win, as they now turn their attention to a road matchup with Grayson County at 6 p.m. on Friday.
Owensboro vs Meade County
The Lady Devils couldn’t find a rhythm in the second half offensively on Tuesday, ultimately falling to Meade County on the 65-34.
Owensboro got off to a strong start defensively, holding the Lady Waves to 12 points in the first and second quarter. However, a seven-point second quarter for the Lady Devils had them a step behind, trailing 24-19 at halftime.
Meade County proceeded to make some halftime adjustments though, exploding for 23 points in the third while Owensboro was held to single digits and went into the fourth down 47-27. The Lady Devils didn’t have much better luck in the fourth, being held to six points as they lost to Meade County 65-34.
The Lady Waves finished with four players in double figures, while junior A’Lyrica Hughes was the only player to finish with more than six for Owensboro with nine points in the contest. The Lady Devils fall to 14-6 overall with the loss, as they will look to bounce back on Saturday against Central Hardin at 2:30 p.m.s
