Owensboro Catholic and Trinity (Whitesville) put on a show offensively in their respective road wins on Saturday, while the Eagles struggled to get going in a tough road loss to Edmonson County.

Owensboro Catholic vs Cane Ridge

A seven-point fourth quarter was a mute point for Owensboro Catholic on Saturday, as a hot start paired with strong defense throughout led them to a 66-42 win over Cane Ridge.

Fresh off of becoming the all-time leading scorer in program history, senior Brian Griffith kickstarted the Aces offense with 10 points while the defense was red hot as well en route to a 19-4 lead going into the second. Brian and Owensboro Catholic didn’t slow down in the second either, as the senior guard grabbed eight more points to make it a 39-16 lead at halftime.

This was more than enough momentum for the Aces to handle business in the second half, as they narrowly outscored Cane Ridge but still grabbed a dominant 66-42 win on the road. Griffith was the only player to finish in double figures for Owensboro Catholic with 21 points, while nine other players scored for the Aces.

Owensboro Catholic moves to 16-1 after their eighth straight win, as they’ll look to make it nine against a tough Ohio County team at home at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Trinity (Whitesville) vs Crittenden County

A balanced scoring effort with a lights out performance from beyond the arch propelled Trinity (Whitesville) to a second straight win on Saturday, beating Crittenden County in a 78-31 win at home.

Senior Nate Hernandez kicked things off for the Raiders with two of the team’s four threes in the opening quarter, as he and senior Landon Smith had six each to take a 22-10 lead into the second. Trinity didn’t slow down in the second either, knocking down two more threes and holding Crittenden County to single digits to take a 38-18 lead at halftime.

The Raiders had its best quarter of the game coming out of the locker room, drilling four more threes and exploding for 28 points to make it a 66-25 game following the third. Crittenden County was held to single digits for the third straight quarter in the fourth as well, as Trinity continued to shoot its way to the 78-31 win with a total of 12 threes on the night.

Smith led the way with 20 points, while sophomore Hayden Aull hit three from deep and finished with 18. Nate also finished with three from beyond the arc, while senior Gavin Howard hit a pair and Nick Goetz, Nolan Mills, Will Hernandez and JP Payne hit one each.

Trinity improves to 9-6 overall with the win, as they’ll look to continue their winning ways in the first of a five-game road stint against Hancock County at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.

Apollo vs Edmonson County

A rough start came back to bite the Eagles in their second straight loss on Saturday, as they fell to Edmonson County on the road 54-35.

Apollo was unable to find a rhythm offensively in the first half, as they were held to single digits in both quarters and went into halftime trailing 26-12. The Eagles were able to bounce back in the second half, but it was too little too late as they were outscored again en route to the 54-35 loss.

Senior Zjhan Tutt was the only player to finish in double figures with 14 points for Apollo, while sophomore Kobe Kelly finished close behind with eight points. The Eagles fall to 3-13 overall with the loss, as they’ll look to bounce back in a road matchup with Breckinridge County at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
