Daviess County football got their first district win on Friday night in dominant fashion, beating Marshall County 57-0. The Panthers have now won seven-straight against the Marshals, dating back to 2012.
Offensive lineman Isaac Blue lined up at fullback for the Panthers and took it in the endzone from five yards out early in the contest for the first touchdown of his career. This was the first of many for Daviess County on the night, putting them up 7-0 with 3:41 left in the first quarter.
Russ Crowe fielded a punt after a couple stops by the Panthers, returning it 30 yards for a touchdown to put the Panthers up 14-0. Daviess County’s special teams struck again following the extra point, recovering the surprise onside kick.
Moments later, Lake Wilson connected with Decker Renfrow for a 40-yard touchdown pass to give the Panthers two touchdowns within a minute. Daviess County was rolling, up 21-0 with 9:44 left in the first half.
Later in the quarter, senior running back Bryson Parm got loose for a 68-yard touchdown. He would find the endzone once again just minutes later, giving him seven rushing touchdowns on the season. His two scores just before halftime gave the Panthers a 34-0 lead at the break.
Senior kicker Sean Higgs was back in action for Daviess County tonight, knocking one through from 15 yards out to give them a 37-0 lead with 9:27 left in the third quarter. He would end up going 6/6 on extra-point attempts on the night as well.
Lake Wilson threw his second long touchdown pass of the game towards the end of the third quarter, this time connecting with Luke Floyd for 68 yards to put the Panthers up 44-0.
Sophomore defensive back Gatlin Maysey intercepted the Marshall County quarterback and returned it for a touchdown. This gave the Panthers a 50-0 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Daviess County’s Sam Oberst scored his first touchdown of his high school career with 6:45 to go in the game. The successful extra-point would give you your final score of 57-0.
Not much to say in this one, as the Panthers dominated in every facet of the game. Daviess County’s defense continued to be turnover machine forcing five and only giving up 19 total yards of offense. This gives the Panthers 10 takeaways in just two weeks.
DC took another big step forward on the offensive side of the ball tonight gaining 467 total yards. Parm didn’t miss a beat from last week, rushing for 160 yards and two touchdowns. Floyd led the Panthers in receiving with 116 yards and a touchdown.
The Panthers (4-2, 1-0) will continue district play next Friday by hosting McCracken County (2-4, 2-0) who recently defeated Apollo 34-14
