As pickleball has become a hot commodity amongst the community, Daviess County Fiscal celebrated the opening of six brand new pickleball courts at Yellow Creek Park on Saturday, July 16.

For those who may not know, pickleball is a growing sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong, as teams of two players each face off. With the number of competitors within the sport growing much more recently, Daviess County wanted to make sure they supported the sport.

There are six new regulation courts to the left of the newly resurfaced basketball court and the right of the splash park and disc golf course at Yellow Creek Park, surrounded by chain link fences all around. There are dividing nets in between the sets of three courts, in order for games to be played without any interference.

Along with the introduction of the courts themselves, on Daviess County’s official website a video was shared with Director of Daviess County Parks & Recreation Ross Lee talking about the news.

“We realize the number of folks in the region, Owensboro and Daviess County, that love to be able to play pickleball is [high],” Lee said. “So throughout the efforts of the Daviess County Fiscal Court and our elected officials, we have six new lit pickleball courts here at Yellow Creek Park that can be used by the public.”

The new pickleball courts were tennis courts previously that were refurbished to celebrate the love that the relatively new sport has garnered in the community over the past year. Lee went on in the video to mention that the courts will be lit at night and will be available to play at until 11 p.m. throughout the week at Yellow Creek Park.
