Seven local football players named to AP All-State Teams

The Associated Press 2021 Kentucky All-State Football Teams have been released. Daviess County’s Joe Humphreys, Owensboro’s Jeremiah Goodwin, and Catholic’s Braden Mundy earned Second-Team honors, while four more local players were named honorable mention.

Tramel Barksdale, Jak Lindsey and Zach Clark — all from OHS — along with DC’s Max Dees each earned honorable mention honors.

Second Team honorees

DC senior quarterback Joe Humphreys was the state’s leading passer in all classes. In 13 games, he completed 263 of 391 pass attempts for 3,940 yards and 48 touchdowns, with just 9 interceptions. He was also a threat on the ground, finishing with 71 carries for 601 yards and a team-high 17 touchdowns.

OHS junior linebacker Jeremiah Goodwin did a little bit of everything for the Owensboro defense. In 14 games, he recorded 57 tackles (20 solo), with team highs of 19 tackles for loss and 13 sacks. He forced 1 fumble and recovered 2, including returning one 12 yards for a score, and added one interception. Goodwin also caught 34 passes for team highs of 586 yards and 8 touchdowns.

OC senior wide receiver Braden Mundy was the state’s leading receiver in all classes. In 12 games, he caught 76 passes for 1,370 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also rushed 30 times for 133 yards and 4 scores, he completed 2 of 10 passes for 108 yards, and had an 80-yard kick return for a touchdown.

Honorable mention honorees

OHS senior running back Tramel Barksdale carried the ball 153 times for 1,219 yards and 14 touchdowns in 14 games. He also caught 10 passes for 99 yards and 2 scores. He also forced 1 fumble and recovered 3, returning 2 for touchdowns. 

DC senior wide receiver Max Dees caught 75 passes for 1,163 yards and 9 touchdowns in 13 games. He also had 4 carries for 28 yards. Defensively, he forced and recovered 1 fumble to go along with 6 interceptions and 46 tackles (38 solo).

OHS defensive back Zach Clark led the team with 101 tackles, including a team-high 47 solo. In 14 games, he also had 3 interceptions, returning all 3 for touchdowns. 

OHS sophomore offensive lineman Jak Lindsey continued to make big contributions as a run and pass blocker for OHS after bursting onto the scene at the end of his freshman year.
