The Aces remained undefeated at home on Friday night, taking advantage of a number of errors and a dominant start en route to a 9-1 victory over Breckinridge County.

After a 1-2-3 start for junior Grant Parson, Owensboro Catholic quickly loaded the bases with a one-out walk and back-to-back hit by pitches. Senior John Frey walked to make it a 1-0 game, but after a strikeout another hit by pitch gave the Aces a 2-0 lead going into the second.

The Fighting Tigers were able to get two runners on quickly in the second inning, but Parson was able to halt them before they were able to get any damage done. Owensboro Catholic took advantage in the bottom half of the inning, getting back-to-back RBI singles from seniors Everett Munsey and Sam McFarland.

Up 4-0, Owensboro Catholic didn’t let off the gas and added some insurance runs in the third inning. Freshman Brady Atwell got hit to open up the inning, which was followed up by an RBI single for senior Alex Castlen.

Castlen later scored on a passed ball, but the Aces were down to two outs after a flyout. However, a single and catcher’s interference on a pop-up by Munsey kept the inning alive.

McFarland would make Breckinridge County pay for the miscue, ripping an RBI single to right. Then senior Braden Mundy lined one to the right field as well, this time getting a triple and giving Owensboro Catholic a 9-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Parson and junior Wyatt Jenkins were combining for a gem on the mound. Parson went four innings, gave up three hits and struck out three. While Jenkins allowed the lone run of the day, he went three innings and gave up five hits while striking out five to help secure the 9-1 win for the Aces.

McFarland, Mundy and Castlen led the way at the plate for Owensboro Catholic, as they all had two RBIs each. McFarland and senior Luke Evans were the lone players to have a pair of hits on the day.

Now with three straight home wins, the Aces have a big road test ahead of them on Saturday when they take on Trinity (Louisville) at 1 p.m.
