It was a tale of two games for Owensboro Catholic on Saturday, falling in game one due to a late comeback, while fending off a late rally to secure a win in game two.

Game 1 vs. Christian County:

After grabbing an early lead in the second inning, Owensboro Catholic’s bats went silent as the Lady Colonels fought their way back to a 9-6 win.

Trailing 3-1 going into the second, the Lady Aces caught fire in the bottom half of the inning. Junior Abbie Dukate doubled to left to leadoff the inning, which led to an RBI single by junior Kira Edwards the following at-bat.

A single from Camille Conkright followed by a walk after a fielder’s choice then loaded the bases for Owensboro Catholic. A strikeout made it two outs in the inning during the following at-bat, but the Lady Aces proceeded to get a two-run double from junior Lilli Grant and an RBI single from freshman Jaiden Grant to take a 6-3 lead into the third.

However, Christian County responded with a pair of runs in the top of the third, followed by a two-out rally in the fourth that led to four runs for the Lady Colonels and a 9-6 lead.

Following the offensive outburst from Christian County, Owensboro Catholic was unable to get a hit for the remainder of the game as they fell 9-6.

Game 2 vs. Breckinridge County:

The Lady Aces were able to turn their luck around offensively in the second game of the day, starting with junior Bailey Hamilton. With two outs in the bottom of the third, Bailey homered to right to give them a 1-0 lead.

After an error during the next at-bat, Grant was able to single to center, helping the Lady Aces take a 2-0 lead into the fourth inning.

While Breckinridge County was able to get two runs in the fifth and sixth , so did Owensboro Catholic. Bailey Hamilton provided an RBI single in the fifth and a single and three straight walks in the sixth gave the Lady Aces a 4-2 lead going into the final inning.

Breckinridge County did get a one-out solo shot to cut it to 4-3 in the top of the seventh, but shortly after Brooke Hamilton forced a double play and secured the home win.

Brooke allowed 10 hits in seven innings, walked five, allowed two earned runs and struck out four as well.

Bailey Hamilton led the way at the plate, recording three hits and two RBIs, while Brooke and Grant both had an RBI.

Owensboro Catholic splits the doubleheader, putting them at 3-1 going into a road matchup with Madisonville-North Hopkins at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
