Second and third quarter struggles offensively ended the Lady Raiders 12th District Tournament run early, as Edmonson County pulled off the first-round upset with a 37-33 win on Monday..

With five different players scoring in the first—with senior Cassidy Morris tallying five herself—Trinity (Whitesville) got off to a solid start and took a 13-9 lead into the second.

In the second the Lady Raiders were able to limit the Lady Cats to nine points once again, but their offense faltered. Only able to get six points, Trinity just narrowly hung onto a 19-18 lead at halftime.

The Lady Raiders offensive struggles only worsened coming out of the locker room, as Morris was responsible for their lone bucket in the third. Outscoring Trinity with seven points in the quarter, Edmonson County went into the fourth owning a 25-21 lead.

Not wanting to close her senior season with a tough loss, Morris single handedly tried to will the Lady Raiders to a win in the fourth. She rattled off eight points in the quarter, accounting for all but four of their points.

However, Paige Wolfe (five) and Annie Kiper (five) were determined to come away victorious, combining for 10 of the Lady Cats’ 12 points en route to the 37-33 upset win.

Wolfe and Kiper led Edmonson County with 10 points each, while Morris led all scorers on the night with 18 for Trinity. The Lady Raiders had no other player score more than four points.

The loss cuts Trinity’s season short as they close out the season owning a 13-12 overall record, but have earned its first winning season since 2016.
