Competing in their first day of the Music City Invitational, the Kentucky Wesleyan Softball team fell 6-4 to Lindenwood in the early game and 7-0 to #10 Indianapolis in the night cap.
Game One
Down 1-0 in the bottom of the first, the Panthers used some powerful hitting to build a lead against the Lindenwood Lions early. Calysta Crum hit a homer to left field to score Hannah Scheberle, which was followed by a moonshot to left center by Makenna Page in the next at bat to make it 3-1 after one.
After Lindenwood rallied to take a 4-3 lead, a Page double scored crum to tie things up at four in the bottom of the fifth. Unfortunately, the Lions scored two runs in the top of the sixth and the Panthers couldn’t find an answer and would fall by a mere two runs.
Makenna Page went 3-for-3 with two RBI’s while Crum also notched two RBI’s. Grace Scott took the loss for the Panthers.
Game Two
Indianapolis showed why they are the #10 team in the country, allowing just two Panther hits all game. Meryck Morgan singled to start the second inning, then proceeded to take advantage of a wild pitch and ground out to advance to third. UIndy forced a groundout however and the Panthers were held at bay. Indianapolis continued to build their lead throughout the game and fought off a late comeback attempt in the seventh by KWC to take this one 7-0.
Crum and Mary Morgan each recorded hits for the Panthers. Morgan struck out three in the loss.
Wesleyan will be right back at it tomorrow when they face rival Southern Indiana at 1 p.m. and Missouri S&T at 3 p.m. Both games will be played at Cedar Stone Park in Smyrna, Tenn.
