Phelps, Parm qualify for state in Region 1 Bowling Championships

Daviess County’s Madilyn Phelps and Jasmine Parm shined in the Region 1 Championships this past weekend, while Apollo, Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic competed across multiple divisions.

Phelps finished second in the girls singles division posting scores of 201, 148, and 198 to qualify in the top-four. She then competed in the championship individually, bowling a 191 to fall just short to Maude Forrester (210) of Warren East. Parm finished fourth, falling to Graves County’s Abigail Hamilton (190-156).

Competing as the No. 6 seed Phelps and Parm helped lead the Lady Panthers past Ohio County (131-109, 126-138, 161-120 139-139, 160-85) and South Warren (174-109, 140-156, 166-151, 160-140), before falling to Barren County (140-115, 180-177, 160-141) in the semifinals.

No. 5 Apollo and No. 12 Owensboro met in the first round of the girls team division, with the Lady Devils pulling off the 12-5 upset (92-134, 104-133, 117-98, 130-111, 163-124). Owensboro met its match in the following round, as they lost to Warren East with scores of 130-114, 102-111, 124-111, 102-105, 142-126.

In the boys singles division Logan Tincher of Daviess County was the lone top-10 finisher, earning scores of 182, 245 and 193.

In the boys team championship Apollo competed at the No. 2 seed, Daviess County No. 6, Owensboro Catholic was No. 10 and Owensboro was No. 12.

The Aces and Red Devils saw first-round exits in their respective matchups, falling to No. 7 Warren East (183-141, 150-155, 183-151 159-163, 177-162) and No. 5 Greenwood (188-143, 188-130, 147-188, 160-152).

Daviess County grabbed a first round victory over No. 11 Barren County (192-166, 146-200, 162-150 209-145), before falling to the eventual Regional Champions Graves County at scores of .

Apollo made its way to the quarterfinals by defeating No. 15 Warren Central (220-203, 235-156, 140-158, 201-172) and No. 7 Warren East (142-125, 204-137, 180-131), before falling to Graves County at scores of .

By finishing second and fourth in regionals, Phelps and Parm will be the lone representatives of the area who will compete at state.
