Trinity, Apollo and Owensboro struggled offensively on Monday, as they fell in their respective matchups to begin the week.
Trinity vs. Ohio County
Getting outscored in each quarter except the second, the Lady Raiders inability to stop Ohio County from beyond the arc led to a narrow 49-47 loss.
Camryn Kennedy (eight) and Addie Bullock (five) gave the Lady Eagles a piping hot start offensively, as the two combined for 13 points en route to a 17-14 lead after the first quarter.
Kennedy continued to lead the charge in the second, scoring all nine of Ohio County’s points. And while Trinity had limited them to single digits, they failed to crack double digits themselves and went into halftime trailing 26-22.
The Lady Raiders and Lady Eagles traded buckets in the third quarter, as the two went back and forth with 14 points each to exit the quarter with Ohio County out in front 40-36.
Trinity was finally able to outscore the Lady Eagles in the fourth, but Ohio County’s four threes as opposed to the Lady Raiders one led to a 49-47 loss.
Kennedy led the way with 16 points while grabbing one three for the Lady Eagles, with Bullock tallying 12 points with six coming from beyond the arc.
Senior Cassidy Morris led the way for Trinity with 16 points, while freshman Kenzie McDowell earned 12 points off of the bench.
The Lady Raiders second straight loss makes them 8-9 overall, as they now turn their attention to their second straight road matchup with Union County at 7:30 p.m.
Apollo vs. Greenwood
Getting strong second and third-quarter performances from Kayla Grant and Leia Trinh, the Lady Gators offense pushed them past Apollo 58-46.
The E-gals got out to an early lead thanks to some solid marksmanship from deep, getting nie points from beyond the arc en route to an 11-9 lead after the first quarter.
Apollo stayed on pace offensively in the second, but thanks to half of the Lady Gators 16 points coming from Grant, Greenwood had claimed a 25-24 lead going into halftime.
The Lady Gators expanded their lead coming out of the locker room, as Trinh rattled off 16 points en route to a 48-36 lead going into the fourth.
The E-gals were able to limit Greenwood to just 10 points in the fourth, but were unable to make up any ground offensively and fell 58-46.
Trinh led all the way with 22 points for the Lady Gators, while Grant and Jojo McCorkie both chipped in 15 points each. Senior Shelbie Beatty led Apollo with 22 points, while fellow senior Amaya Curry followed close behind with 16 points.
The loss is the second straight for the E-gals, as they fall to 12-12 overall. Apollo has a quick turnaround, as they are set to host Muhlenberg County at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Owensboro vs. Breckinridge County
Unable to muster up enough offense, the Lady Devils fell to a Breckinridge County team led by Sydney Tucker and Isabel Grimes 59-36.
Grimes gave the Lady Tigers a major spark in the first quarter with 13 points. Meanwhile, they were able to limit Owensboro to single digits and took a 20-5 lead.
While the Lady Devils were able to crack double digits in the second quarter thanks to a pair of threes from junior Lindsey Gibson, Breckinridge County’s offense didn’t skip a beat and took a 35-15 lead at halftime.
Owensboro continued to improve offensively coming out of the locker room, but the Lady Tigers were living from deep in the third quarter. The Lady Devils had no answer defensively as Breckinridge County tallied four triples, helping expand its lead to 48-26 going into the fourth.
Owensboro was able to limit the Lady Tigers to 11 points in the fourth, but they were unable to dig themselves out of a hole and ultimately lost 59-36.
Tucker led all scorers with 19 points, Grimes chipped in 16 and Skylar Tucker also finished in double figures with 10 points on the night.
Gibson led the Lady Devils with 18 points on the night, knocking down five threes and serving as the only player in double figures.
The loss moves Owensboro to 13-11 overall, as they now turn their focus to a home district matchup with Daviess County on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
