The E-gals and Lady Panthers opened up the week strong, using strong games offensively to grab wins in their respective matchups with Hancock and McLean County.
Apollo vs. Hancock County
The E-gals offense was clicking on all cylinders Tuesday, using a balanced attack to blow Hancock County out 77-46 on the road.
Apollo wasted no time getting to work out of the gates, as senior Shelbie Beatty scored 12 points to help them to a 23-7 lead following the first quarter.
The Lady Hornets were able to bounce back and crack double digits in the second, but the E-gals still had their number on the offensive end and took a 40-20 halftime lead.
Senior Amaya Curry (seven) and Beatty (six) continued to lead the charge coming out of the locker room, as the two combined for 13 points and helped extend Apollo’s lead to 59-34 going into the fourth.
The E-gals didn’t take their foot off the gas in the fourth quarter, outscoring Hancock County once again to walk away with a monstrous 77-46 road win.
Beatty led all scorers with 26 points on the night, while Curry followed with 20. Sophomore Jennifer Lee also chipped in 12 points and eighth grader Kennedy Lane chipped in 10.
The win makes it three straight for Apollo, as they move to 12-10 going into a district battle with Owensboro at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
Daviess County vs. McLean County
With key rotation players not dressing, the Lady Panthers were led by freshman Lily Hoagland and junior Adylan Ayer and came out of a week-long quarantine with a 54-43 win over McLean County.
It was a slow start for both teams as play opened up with neither team able to get much going offensively, as Daviess County went into the second quarter owning a narrow 6-5 lead.
Thanks to Hoagland (eight) the Lady Panthers were able to crack double digits in the second quarter, limiting the Lady Cougars to single digits and taking a 16-14 lead at halftime.
Daviess County’s offense flipped a switch in the third quarter, led by Ayer’s nine points. The Lady Panthers went on to score 21, extending their lead to 37-30 following the third.
It was none other than Hoagland (eight) and Ayer (seve) who helped Daviess County close the door in the fourth, as they combined for 15 points to lead them to a 54-43 win on the road.
Hoagland led all scorers with 21 points on the night, while Ayer was the only other player in double figures for the Lady Panthers with 19.
The win snaps a three-game losing streak for Daviess County, as they now sit at 13-8 overall going into a district matchup with Owensboro Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
