First half struggles ail Raiders in loss to Henderson County

Struggling to find a rhythm offensively in the first half, Trinity (Whitesville) fell to Henderson County 64-53 in the first of a three-game roadstand.

Both teams looked to perimeter shooting to get themselves going in the first quarter, as the Colonels got six of its from deep. The Raiders also got six of its points from three, but were held to single digits and went into the second trailing 11-6.

Henderson County ramped up its offensive attack in the second, nearly cracking the 20-point mark. Meanwhile, Trinity’s struggles remained, as they were limited to eight points and went into halftime behind 28-14.

The Raiders tried to make up some ground out of the locker room by outscoring the Colonels in 13-11 in the third, but remained down by double digits heading into the fourth.

It was then that Trinity’s offense came alive, rattling off 26 points thanks to big performances from senior Bailey Wright (eight) and junior Nathan Hernandez (seven). However, they weren’t able to slow down Henderson County, as they went off for 25 points to close out a 64-53 win.

The Raiders fall to 13-11 overall with the loss, as they turn their attention to their third game in four days against Grayson County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
