It was a day filled with offense on Saturday, as Trinity, Daviess County and Owensboro Catholic used efficient attacks to grab wins to close out the week.

Trinity vs. Louisville Collegiate

After a slow start in the first quarter, the Raiders offense came alive in the second quarter and stayed consistent en route to a 65-44 win over Louisville Collegiate.

Both teams got off to a slow start offensively, as neither team was able to crack double digits and went into the second quarter knotted up at 8-8.

Trinity’s offense was kickstarted by the trio of Bailey Wright (eight), Landon Smith (six) and Landon Huff (five), as they combined for 19 of the team’s 27 points in the second. Able to keep the Titans in check defensively, they went into halftime owning a 35-20 lead.

It was a grueling third quarter for both teams, trading buckets back and forth as both offenses had slowed down coming out of the locker room. The Raiders had a slight edge and went into the fourth up 46-30.

Trinity left no doubt on who would be the victor in the fourth, as its offense bounced back for 19 points in the quarter with a balanced attack to close the game out at 65-44.

Huff led all scorers with 16 points on the day, pairing that with 11 rebounds for a double-double. Juniors Gavin Howard (14) and Smith (10) also finished in double figures on the day, while Wright got all eight of his points in the second quarter.

The win is the second straight for the Raiders, as they advance to 12-10 going into a road matchup with Christian County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Daviess County vs. Bethlehem

Having its strongest offensive game of the season, Daviess County was able to grab a 92-60 win over Bethlehem on senior night to snap its four-game losing streak.

Getting 13 of their 17 points from senior Devonte McCampbell (eight) and sophomore Gage Phelps (five), the Panthers jumped out to a 17-10 lead following the first quarter.

Despite the Eagles bouncing back offensively in the second, Daviess County didn’t take its foot off the gas. They were able to score 12 points from beyond the arc, cracking the 20-point mark and taking a 40-25 lead at halftime.

Senior Max Dees (nine) and Phelps (eight) led the charge to open up the second half, combining for 17 of the team’s 23 points as they expanded the Panthers lead to 63-40.

Daviess County didn’t let up in the fourth quarter, nearly eclipsing the 30-point mark to secure the 92-60 win over the Eagles in front of its home crowd.

McCampbell led all scorers with 23 points, while fellow senior Dees chipped in 18 points. Phelps followed the senior duo with 19 points, as the only other Panther in double figures.

The win is Daviess County’s first since Jan. 24, as it snaps its losing streak and advances to 9-13 overall going into a district battle with Owensboro Catholic at 7 p.m. on Monday.

Owensboro Catholic vs. Thomas Newson

Putting up at least 20 points in each quarter, Owensboro Catholic grabbed an 85-76 win over Thomas Newson behind strong games from juniors Ji Webb and Brian Griffith.

Griffith (seven) and Webb (six) sparked the Aces offense to open up the game, combining for 13 points as they took a 20-7 lead following the first quarter. Owensboro Catholic didn’t slow down at all in the second, rattling off 22 points.

Meanwhile Braden Smith kept Thomas Newson in the game, scoring 12 of its 16 points to go into halftime trailing 42-23.

Webb (nine) and Griffith (eight) continued to be an unstoppable tandem to open up the second half, earning 17 points between the two as Owensboro Catholic went into the fourth with a 63-44 lead.

Thomas Newson did its best to claw its way back into the game in the fourth, earning 18 points from beyond the arc. Despite a 32-point quarter, Webb put on a show in the fourth with 10 points to help the Aces close out the game with an 85-76 win.

Webb led all scorers with 32 points on the day, while Griffith followed closely behind with 23 as the only other player in double figures for Owensboro Catholic.

The Aces move to 12-10 overall on the season, as they grab a nice road win heading into a road district game against Daviess County at 7 p.m. on Monday.
