Owensboro Catholic was the lone local school to come away victorious on Tuesday, as Apollo, Daviess County, Trinity and Owensboro fell in its respective matchups.

Apollo vs. Muhlenberg County

Muhlenberg County put on a clinic on both ends of the floor Tuesday, as Apollo lost 72-31 in its second to last home game.

The Mustangs wasted no time taking control of the game, limiting the Eagles to single digits in the first. Pair that with five threes to account for nearly all of its offense, and Muhlenberg County had a 19-9 lead going into the second.

Junior Zjhan Tutt tried to give Apollo a spark with six points in the second, but the Mustangs didn’t skip a beat offensively. Exploding for 22 points in the quarter, Muhlenberg County took a 41-17 lead into halftime.

Thanks to a pair of threes, the Eagles were able to crack double digits for the first time on the night coming out of the locker room. However, they had no answer for the Mustangs defensively, surrendering 24 points and heading into the fourth trailing 65-27.

Apollo was able to limit Muhlenberg County to seven points in the fourth, but their offensive struggles remained as they fell 72-31.

Sophomore Eli Masterson was the only player to score more than seven points for the Eagles, leading the way with 11 on the night.

The loss is the 14th consecutive for Apollo, as they sit at 2-24 going into its final home game of the season against Dawson Springs at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Daviess County vs. Grayson County

A dominant second half from Grayson County was the deciding factor on Tuesday night, as the Panthers fell 64-57 in their final regular season home game.

The Cougars grabbed an early lead thanks to a pair of threes, as Daviess County was limited to 10 points and went into the second down six.

Sophomore Gage Phleps (10) and senior Devonte McCampbell (six) helped flip the script for the Panthers in the second, combining for 16 of the team’s 24 points. Holding Grayson County to 10 points, Daviess County was able to grab a 34-26 lead at halftime.

The Cougars came out of the locker room determined to reclaim the lead, rattling off 18 points with seven coming from River Blanton. Meanwhile, Daviess County was baffled by Grayson County defensively, as they were only able to tally seven points and went into the fourth behind 44-41.

Senior Max Dees tried to give the Panthers a spark offensively in the fourth with seven points, but Blanton, Keegan Sharp and company were not going to be denied the victory.

Sharp (eight) and Blanton (seven) combined for 15 of the Cougars 20, closing the door on a 64-57 win over Daviess County. Phelps led the Panthers with 18 on the night, while McCampbell chipped in 12 and Dees also finished with 11 points.

The loss snaps a two-game winning streak for Daviess County, as they sit at 11-15 overall going into its regular season finale against Union County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Owensboro vs. Ohio County

The Eagles got hot when it mattered most on Tuesday, turning it on late to defeat Owensboro 61-60 in a double overtime battle.

Ohio County got out to a solid start in the first quarter, tallying 13 points. Meanwhile, senior Amari Robinson-Wales accounted for six of the Red Devil’s points, as they went into the second trailing 13-10.

Robinson-Wales continued to lead the charge in the second quarter, as he rattled off eight points to help Owensboro close the gap. Limiting the Eagles to nine points in the quarter, the Red Devils were able to take a 25-22 lead at halftime.

Neither team was able to get much going out of the locker room, as both tallied single digits while Owensboro remained out in front 32-28 going into the fourth.

Ohio County just narrowly outscored the Red Devils in the fourth to force overtime tied at 45-45, as they proceeded to battle its way to victory. The two teams traded points back and forth, needing a second overtime period to decide a winner.

It was the Eagles that ultimately prevailed with the 61-60 win, outscoring Owensboro 16-15 in the two overtime periods.

Robinson-Wales led all scorers with 27 points on the night, while Carbon was the only other Red Devil to score more than four points with 16.

The loss moves Owensboro to 18-7 overall on the season, as they will close out the regular season with a road matchup against Henderson County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Owensboro Catholic vs. Breckinridge County

A strong first half defensively by Owensboro Catholic was the key to a 73-50 win over Breckinridge County in its second straight home game on Tuesday.

The Aces didn’t take long to get out in front in the first, as their big three of juniors Parker Gray (eight), Ji Webb (six) and Brian Griffith (five) combined for all of their points, as they took a 20-11 lead following the first.

Sophomore Tutt Carrico led Owensboro Catholic offensively in the second with six points, while the Aces defense stepped up to help extend their lead. They were able to limit the Fighting Tigers to seven points in the quarter, taking a 34-18 lead at halftime.

Owensboro Catholic didn’t slow down offensively coming out of halftime, as Webb (nine) finished with half of the team’s points in the third. Meanwhile, Breckinridge County was trying to fight its way back into the game. The Fighting Tigers rattled off a number of threes as they outscored the Aces, but still trailed 52-37 going into the fourth.

Despite Breckinridge County’s late comeback efforts, Owensboro Catholic caught fire for 21 points in the fourth to close the door on a 73-50 win.

Webb led all scorers with 22 points on the night, while Griffith followed with 14 points, Carrico registered 12 points and Gray tallied all eight of his points in the first quarter.

The win moves Owensboro Catholic to 15-11 overall, as they are set to close out the regular season with a home game against Evansville Reitz at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Trinity (Whitesville) vs. Hancock County

Struggling to find a rhythm offensively throughout the night, the Raiders were unable to stifle Hancock County in a 62-42 loss in their final home game of the regular season.

Kaleb Keown (eight) and Evan Ferry (seven) helped the Hornets jump out to an early lead after the first, combining for 15 points. Meanwhile, Trinity was limited to eight points, heading into the second trailing 16-8.

The Raiders bounced back for their strongest quarter of the night offensively in the second, rattling off 18 points with seven coming from junior Nathan Hernandez. But Keown and Hancock County weren’t slowing down, as he tallied seven points and took a 32-26 lead at halftime.

Trinity was able to hold the Hornets to 13 points coming out of the locker room, but they weren’t able to gain much momentum offensively. Being held to eight points for the second quarter of the night, the Raiders went into the fourth trailing 45-34.

The final quarter of play was much of the same for Trinity, as they were only able to tally eight points and ultimately fell 62-42 to Hancock County.

Keown led the Hornets with 25 points on the night, while Ferry chipped in 12 and Devin Powers also finished in double figures with 10 points.

No one scored in double figures for the Raiders on the night, as juniors Landon Smith and Landon Huff finished with nine points each.

The loss is the second straight for Trinity, as they sit at 16-12 going into their season finale on the road against McLean County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
