Apollo’s standout pitcher Nick Judd has taken the next step in his athletic career, choosing to stay close to home and play collegiate baseball at Kentucky Wesleyan.
“I couldn’t be more excited to become a part of KWC’s baseball program and school,” Judd said. “There is a certain amount of stress everyone experiences through the recruiting process and to be locked in at a school like KWC takes all the added stress away.”
Judd said that the Panthers’ coaching staff has made him feel valued from the jump and that going where you’re wanted is the best feeling a person can have.
“From the first time I talked to them up to this point, our relationship has been different,” Judd said. “There’s a connection on a personal level and the atmosphere they create rivals any. There was also a heavy draw for me as the coaches made it clear how they felt about me as a person and a player.”
On top of the already strong relationship with the coaches, the talent within the program is also what stood out to Judd.
“The program itself stands out as it always competes for conference championships and runs to the tournament,” Judd said. “I love to win and this program wins. The coaches again are just different. I never at any point felt like they just wanted me for the player I am, they also want the person.”
Academically, Judd is planning to double major in business administration and exercise science at Wesleyan.
The Apollo senior said he will miss the amazing teachers and staff who have helped him through high school through academics or just any issues in general. But most of all, Judd will miss his time with his fellow Eagles on and off the field.
“I’m going to miss all the guys I played with at Apollo,” Judd said. “All of our bus rides, workouts, and down time together is something that will definitely be missed. I will miss all of our coaches as well, as I have very strong relationships with all of them.”
Judd had 2.75 ERA while owning a 3-2 record in seven games on the mound—six of which he started in the 2021 season.
He struck out 45 batters and walked eight in 28 innings pitched, while also turning in a .390 batting average at the plate with 21 RBIs.
The senior will look to close out his high school career on a high note before taking his talents to the next level.
