Trinity (Whitesville) didn’t have an answer for Butler County’s offense on Friday, as their winning streak was snapped by an 80-70 loss.
The Raiders got off to a strong start in the first quarter, as they exploded for 20 points, with 12 of them coming from beyond the arc to take a 20-16 lead into the second.
Trinity’s offensive proficiency didn’t continue in the second, as the Bears outscored them 19-12 and took a narrow 35-32 lead at halftime.
The Raiders offense came out clicking on all cylinders in the third quarter, tallying 21 points total. However, they were unable to stifle Butler County’s offense and remained behind at 60-53 going into the fourth.
The Bears continued to pour it on in the fourth, using a balanced attack that included nine points from beyond the arc. Despite the Raiders’ best efforts, their inability to halt Butler County’s offensive momentum led to an 80-70 loss.
Butler County got a large sum of its points from the charity stripe, going 11-17 from the line while Trinity went 2-3.
Junior Gavin Howard led the Raiders with 15 points on the night, while fellow juniors Landon Smith (14), Landon Huff (13) and Nathan Hernandez (13) all finished in double figures.
The loss snaps a two-game winning streak, as they fall to 9-9 overall. Trinity has a quick turnaround, as they will look to flip the switch when they host Cloverport at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
