Up at halftime the E-gals put the nail in the coffin in the third quarter on Tuesday, holding McLean County scoreless en route to a 52-28 win.
Apollo jumped out a narrow lead in the first quarter, holding the Lady Cougars to single digits and taking a 12-9 lead into the second.
McLean County tried to get a spark from the perimeter to close the gap in the second, getting nine points from beyond the arc. However, they weren’t able to expand on this advantage and went into halftime trailing the E-gals 27-19.
Apollo’s offense sputtered to open the second half, as they were limited to just seven points in the third. However, the E-gals defense was not to be denied, as the Lady Cougars couldn’t register a single point and went into the fourth trailing 34-19.
Apollo put the finishing touches on the game in the fourth, outscoring McLean County once again and walking away with a 52-28 win.
Senior Amaya Curry snapped out a slump with a team-leading 17 points, while senior Shelbie Beatty finished with 12 points and sophomore Jenna Dant followed with 11 points.
The win snaps a two-game losing streak for the E-gals, as they advance to 10-10 overall before they have to Bethlehem at 6 p.m. on Friday.
