Trinity and Daviess County volleyball came away victorious Thursday night, while Owensboro suffered a tough road loss.
Trinity vs. Edmonson County
The Lady Raiders extended their winning streak to nine games Thursday night, defeating Edmonson County in four sets (25-22, 26-28, 25-17, 25-11).
Trinity came out in the first set looking to set the tone for the match, coming out of the gates with a 25-22 win.
Edmonson County wasn’t going down without a fight though, using extra points to come away with a 28-26 win in the second set to even things at 1-1.
Following the second-set loss the Lady Raiders locked in and were laser sharp, winning the third set 25-17.
With all momentum on its side, Trinity swiftly won the final set by a double-digit score of 25-11 to claim the match 3-1.
Sophomore Hannah Nash led the way offensively for the Lady Raiders with 19 kills, while senior Cassidy Morris followed closely behind with 18 kills.
Senior Josie Aull was setting up her teammates time and time again against Edmonson County, finishing with 41 assists.
It was a balanced effort defensively, with multiple players helping cover the floor. Senior Taylor Pedley led the way with 15 digs, while junior Abby Payne, sophomore Georgia Howard and Aull recorded nine digs each.
Trinity now sits at 21-4 on the season overall and will look to make it 10 straight when they take on Owensboro on Oct. 13.
Daviess County vs. Breckinridge County
The Lady Panthers recovered from a slow start Thursday night, bouncing back to defeat Breckinridge County in three sets (15-25, 25-18, 25-23).
Daviess County struggled in the opening set, falling by a double-digit score of 15-25, but they weren’t going down easy.
The Lady Panthers recovered and swiftly changed the course of momentum in the match, winning the second set 25-18 to knot things up at 1-1.
It was a back-and-forth affair in the final set, but Daviess County ultimately had the edge and won 25-23 to secure the 2-1 match win.
It was a trio of Lady Panthers leading the way offensively in kills, with juniors Josie Newcom (11), Adylan Ayer (6) and Mary Grace Hill (4) combined for 21 of the team’s 28 kills.
Junior Lexi Owen helped set up the vast majority of those kills, dishing out a team-leading 21 assists on the night. Owen also led the team in digs on the night, recording 10.
Daviess County now sits at 15-9 overall on the season and will look to stay hot after a week of rest before taking on Apollo on Oct. 12.
Owensboro vs. Ohio County
The Lady Devils fought tooth and nail to get the job done, but fell short resulting in a four-set loss to Ohio County (24-26, 25-13, 23-25, 18-25).
Owensboro traded points back and forth with Ohio County in the first set, but couldn’t keep them off the board and fell 26-24.
Determined to shift momentum and take control of the match, Owensboro played with high energy in the second set and won 25-13.
With things knotted up at 1-1 both teams wanted to take the match lead, trading blows until Ohio County ultimately won the third set 25-23.
Up 2-1 Owensboro wasn’t able to hold off Ohio County, falling in the fourth set 25-18 to lose the match 3-1.
The Lady Devils had a number of players contribute defensively, with four players finishing in double figures for digs.
Junior Kennedy Thompson led the way with 19, while sophomore Chase Mather finished with 16, freshman Maya Joska finished with 15 and sophomore Hannah Ashley finished with 12.
Owensboro now sits at 14-9 overall on the season and will look to bounce back when they compete in the Quad State Tournament starting Friday.
