Daviess County is looking to extend its winning streak to five games after a week off, looking for revenge against Henderson County.

The Panthers are coming off of a 51-20 victory over McCracken County, as senior quarterback Joe Humphreys had another strong game.

Humphreys threw for 332 yards passing and four touchdowns on 24-30 passing attempts, while also rushing for three touchdowns and 32 yards on nine carries.

Senior Max Dees (eight receptions, 148 receiving yards) and junior Decker Renfrow (five receptions, 109 receiving yards) were his primary targets, finishing with a combined 257 yards receiving.

Senior running back Gunnar Evans also helped solidify Daviess County’s ground game, rushing for 125 yards on 20 carries.

Panthers Head Coach Matt Brannon said they’ve been waiting for this game as the Colonels have ended their last two seasons.

“We have had this game circled all year,” Brannon said. “Henderson has ended our season the last two years and we would like to see some different results.”

The Colonels have been banged up recently, but Brannon said they seem to be at 100% and ready for a battle.

“Henderson is a tough, physical team that plays great defense and has a strong run game,” Brannon said. “They have had some key players injured, and look to be healthy coming into the game this week. It should be a tough contest.”

Daviess County is also healthy and completely charged up after taking time to heal with a bye week that included no practice.

“It is a little of an unorthodox approach, but I think it will pay off,” Brannon said. “Coaches have been able to prepare for two weeks and players were able to rest and relax and get rejuvenated. Football season is a grind, and practice has been excellent so far this week. I think our team is mature and experienced enough to take advantage of the time off and refocus when it is time.”

Brannon said that as long as they can keep their defense on the field and let their offense control the game, they can stifle the Colonels gameplan and come away victorious.

“We must be really good on first and second down defensively and force them into third and long situations,” Brannon said. “We cannot allow long sustained drives that keep our offense off the field. I think they will try to control the tempo of the game and slow it down as much as possible.”

Daviess County will take the field looking to move to 7-1 overall when they host Henderson County at 7 p.m. on Friday.
