The Aces are continuing to look to stay strong when it matters most and come away with a win against McLean County as the regular season nears its ends.
Owensboro Catholic is coming off of a 48-12 victory over Butler County. The Aces offense was clicking on all cylinders on Friday.
Senior quarterback Lincoln Clancy threw for 276 yards on 11-19 passing and four touchdowns against Butler County.
Sophomore Hunter Monroe led the backfield by running for 122 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries, with sophomore William Carrico earning a pair of rushing touchdowns
Senior Braden Mundy also had a big day, earning 170 receiving yards and two touchdowns on six catches.
Following the victory, they had a bye week that was crucial according to Head Coach Jason Morris.
“I think our bye week came at the perfect time,” Morris said. “We had been going all out since early summer and our entire team needed a break. I hope we come out with great enthusiasm ready to make one last push as we head into the playoffs soon.”
While they were dominant offensively and did force some turnovers last week, Morris feels that they could still work on some things on both sides of the ball and have done so in practice.
“We are really focusing on our discipline on defense,” Morris said. “On offense we continue to work on the small details of our passing game and then our ball gets off in the running game.”
The Aces will be tasked with a McLean County team that is hoping to break its two-game losing streak, most recently falling to Hancock County.
They are led by a trio of running backs in the backfield, as junior Zach Clayton, junior Lucas Mouzy and senior James Haerle all average over 50 rushing yards a game.
Morris said that their offensive scheme is a good balance between the ground game and through the air, while switching things up defensively throughout games.
“McLean County has moved Hybrid Wing T offense to the pistol this year and are more balanced run and pass than in past years,” Morris said. “Defensively they are playing multiple fronts.”
As far as expectations go, Morris knows they will have to fight every single down for 48 minutes on Friday in order to continue to stay undefeated in district play.
“We are expecting a very physical game from McLean County,” Morris said. “I expect our boys to stay hungry and take on the road challenge to come out with a victory.”
The Aces will close out the regular season on a two-game road stand, with the first one being against McLean County at 7 p.m. on Friday.
