Coming off of a three-game winning streak, Apollo has had a week off and will be ready for a battle on the gridiron with Henderson County on Friday.
Apollo had a bye week following its offensive showdown with McCracken County in which they won 56-49.
Sophomore Noah Rhinerson and junior Deonte Dixon continued to be a deadly combo for Apollo, tallying 270 rushing yards total and five touchdowns between the two.
Rhinerson had a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown, while Dixon’s touchdowns were all rushing.
Junior quarterback Christian Combs also found success under center, throwing for 235 yards and five touchdowns on the night for the Eagles.
Head Coach John Edge credited his offensive line for creating opportunities for them offensively and said that they have to keep taking what defenses give them to stay hot. The offensive line will be put to the test against the Colonels, as they have a strong defensive line.
“Defensively their front seven are very good,” Edge said. Saadiq Clemens is a great DL. They are fast getting to the football.”
Defensively the Eagles will be tasked with stopping a Henderson County offense that has scored at least 20 points four times this season.
Their offense relies heavily on their backfield whether it’s on the ground or the other air, as Edge said they will have their eyes on a number of players when lining up.
“They have two fast guys in Williams and Wright,” Edge said. “Those are the two guys you have to stop. We have to know where Williams is at all times, [because] he will line up in different positions on the field.”
Edge said that along with this approach they have to limit big plays to keep their defense off the field.
Offensively if they can limit turnovers and take advantage of each scoring opportunity, Edge said that they expect to come away victorious.
“Our expectations are the same [as every week],” Edge said. “Win the game and everyone do their jobs.”
Apollo will make the short road trip to take on Henderson County at 7 p.m. on Friday, looking to move to 5-2 on the season
