With momentum on their side, the Lady Panthers continued to stifle Grayson County’s comeback efforts and defeated them 25-21 to grab the 2-0 sweep.

Junior Josie Newcom led the way offensively on the day, recording 15 kills. Juniors Adylan Ayer and Mary Grace Hill also turned in six and five kills respectively, leaving the trio responsible for 26 of the team’s 31 kills.

Apollo vs. Hancock County

The E-gals were completely in sync Thursday night, grabbing their second sweep in three games as they defeated Hancock County (25-15, 27-25, 25-16).

Apollo came out and asserted its dominance right away in the first set, beating Hancock County by a double digit score of 25-15.

The Lady Hornets fought to tie things at one apiece in the second set, but the E-gals were able to take the set with some extra points and win 27-25.

With two wins under its belt, Apollo used its momentum to help them grab the third set at a score of 25-16 and secure the three-set sweep.

Senior Havanah John was a two-way force against the Lady Hornets, leading the E-gals in kills with 12 and blocks with seven.

Aliyah Carwile and Maddi Boswell also helped out offensively finishing with six and five kills respectively.

The win moves Apollo to 8-12 overall on the season and they will look to win back-to-back games when they take a short road trip to face off with Owensboro at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28.

Owensboro vs. Henderson County

The Lady Devils couldn’t hold the Lady Colonels off on Thursday, as Henderson County came back after being down 2-1 to win the match in the fifth set (21-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-19, 15-9).

Owensboro came out of the gates looking to start the match off with a bang, battling with Henderson County for a 25-21.

The Lady Colonels didn’t back down however, as they returned the favor in the second set with a 25-19 win to even things up at one apiece.

Deja vu volleyball had Owensboro winning the third set 25-21 and putting Henderson County in a win or go home situation.

The Lady Colonels were not going away and were determined to force an extra set, doing so by grabbing a 25-19 victory in the fourth set.

From there on, Henderson County controlled momentum and sneaked away with a 15-9 fifth set win to take the match 3-2.

Sophomore Chase Mather led the way with eight kills for Owensboro, but it was a team effort as five players recorded four or more kills.

Junior Mia Covington (12 assists) and freshman Maya Joska (11 assists) helped set up the vast majority of the team’s kills, combining for 23 of the team’s 24 assists.

Mather and junior Kennedy Thompson put in a lot of work defensively, finishing with 26 and 23 digs to combine for more than half of the team’s kills.

The loss moves the Lady Devils to 12-8 overall on the season, as they will look to snap their two-game losing streak when they host Madisonville-North Hopkins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
