Owensboro will look to make it six straight when they return home for the first time in three weeks to host Muhlenberg County.

The Red Devils are coming off a monstrous road win against Ohio County, in which their defensive effort was superb.

Owensboro had taken a 27-0 lead in the game before even taking an offensive snap thanks to a pair of fumble recoveries for touchdowns, a pick-six and a punt return for a touchdown.

Their offense did thrive when it took the field however, led by a balanced attack that ended in 213 total yards

Junior quarterback Kasey Boone finished with 76 yards on 7-8 passing with a touchdown to lead them under center.

Senior Javius Taylor led the running game with 50 yards on four carries to go along with a touchdown, while junior Jerehmiah Goodwin led all receivers with 42 yards on four catches and a touchdown.

After a long road trip, Head Coach Jay Fallin and company are thrilled to be playing in front of its home crowd once again.

“[It] is another district game and another opportunity to continue to improve in all 3 phases of the game,” Fallin said. “After two weeks of out-of-town road trips, our guys are excited to be back at home on the turf at Rash.”

The Red Devils will be facing a Muhlenberg County team that has struggled as of late, losing its last five games.

The Mustangs defense seems to be their achilles heel, as they’ve allowed 28 points or more in each game this season.

Their offense primarily focuses on moving downfield through the air, as freshman quarterback Kanyon Johnson averages about 160 passing yards a game to go along with two touchdowns.

Fallin said that Muhlenberg County is still a solid football team, but that health issues have caused them setbacks over the course of the season.

‘Muhlenberg is a young team that has been affected by injury and quarantine,” Fallin said. “They are a much better squad than their record might indicate.”

Looking to continue to carry its momentum from their last game, Owensboro is working hard in practice to maximize their potential every second they get a chance.

“We try to bring the same professional approach to practice every day, week in and week out,” Fallin said. “Every day matters, but people who have been around football know that between JV and freshman games, game plan install, film, lifting, and pre-game walk-through you really only get two quality ‘work days’ every week. That means through the course of the regular season we have 20 work days to get better and we need to take advantage of every one of them if we are going to be the kind of team we need to be in November.”

As far as a winning formula goes, Fallin said that their approach doesn’t change and that they must play their game to perform at the highest level when they take the field Thursday night.

“Same as every week, stay ahead of the chains on offense by executing and eliminating drive killing penalties,” Fallin said. “Eliminate turnovers. On defense, communicate and make sure we set our front and coverage and line up properly pre-snap and then execute our assignment post-snap. Execute at a high level and gain an advantage in special teams.”
