Owensboro Catholic volleyball had a successful weekend at the All A State Tournament, finishing 4-2.
The Lady Aces took on Holy Cross first, falling in two hard fought sets to open up the All A State Tournament (21-25, 23-25).
Owensboro Catholic kept battling in the first set of the tournament, but the Holy Cross offense was too much and grabbed a 25-21 win.
With their backs against the wall the Lady Aces were battling to force a third set, but ultimately fell a few points short, losing the final set 25-23.
Owensboro Catholic didn’t let the loss affect them in their second match on Friday, taking on Clinton County and grabbing a sweep of its own (25-17, 25-13).
The Lady Aces came out and set the tone in the first set against Clinton County, coming away with a 25-17 victory.
With a little momentum on its side Owensboro Catholic then grabbed its first double-digit set victory of the tournament by defeating them 25-13 to move to 1-1 after the first day of the tournament.
The Lady Aces carried over this momentum to Saturday, defeating Somerset Christian in three sets (15-25, 25-20, 25-20).
Owensboro Catholic struggled to score in the first set, falling 15-25 before quickly turning things around to make the match go down to the wire.
The Lady Aces bounced back in the second set, defeating Somerset Christian 25-20 to even things up at 1-1.
The two teams traded points back and forth in the final set, but Owensboro Catholic was able to come out on top with another 25-20 win to take the match 2-1.
After two straight wins the Lady Aces looked to make it three against St. Henry, but were unable to and suffered their second loss of the tournament (25-19, 25-9).
Owensboro Catholic battled with St. Henry in the first set, but ultimately went down 1-0 in the match falling 19-25.
The Lady Aces struggled mightily in the following set, as St. Henry defeated them 25-9 to grab the two-set sweep.
Despite the late struggles, Owensboro Catholic turned it around in its third match on Saturday, defeating Whitefield Academy in three sets (25-16, 19-25, 25-12).
The Lady Aces grabbed the first set 25-16, but Whitefield Academy wasn’t going down without a fight.
They came out and battled Owensboro Catholic in the second set, defeating them 25-19 to force a third set.
Despite the clutch second set win by Whitefield Academy, the Lady Aces were determined to come away victorious.
Owensboro Catholic made quick work of them in the third set, winning 25-12 to take the match and improve to 3-2 going into their final match of the tournament.
The Lady Aces wrapped up the All A State Tournament by taking on Caldwell County, as they grabbed their second two-set sweep (25-18, 25-14).
Owensboro Catholic came out of the gates hot in the first set, keeping Caldwell County from mustering up enough offense and defeating them 25-18.
With momentum on their side, the Lady Aces made quick work of Caldwell County in the second 25-14.
Senior Cate Sights led Owensboro Catholic in kills during the tournament with 59, while senior Hadley Latham and junior Abigail Williams combined for 45 kills.
Sights was also second on the team in digs with 37, while also recording six aces and three blocks.
Sophomore Kennedy Murphy led the way in the passing department, dishing out an impressive 81 assists, while also recording 14 aces, 14 digs, 11 kills and five blocks. Junior Paige Miles followed closely behind with 43 assists, while also recording 11 kills, 10 digs, three aces and a block.
Junior Emily Christian presumed her typical role as a top defender, covering the floor well with 54 digs while also recording six aces and a kill during the tournament.
Owensboro Catholic now sits at 13-5 overall with a two-game winning streak under its belt as they return home to host Apollo at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
