Girls soccer recap (Sept. 25): OHS, OCHS

Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic girls soccer both grabbed wins on Saturday thanks to their strong offense, while Apollo fell short against Hopkins County Central.

Owensboro vs. Butler County

The Lady Devils had a record-breaking performance on Saturday, defeating Butler County in the first half 12-0 on senior day.

10 different players scored for Owensboro, with senior Maddie Clouse and sophomore Sydney Lovett leading the way with two goals each.

Senior Ella Bratcher, senior Evie Pierson, senior Abby Warren, senior Abby Beck, senior Natalie Lamar, sophomore Olivia Wilkens, sophomore Addy Riney and junior Alli Hardison all scored a goal on the day.

Lovett broke a single-season record for goals and assists after her performance against Butler County, tallying 28 goals and 17 assists on the season.

The Lady Devils also broke a single-season record for team goals, notching 72 on the year.

Junior keeper Chandler Worth also made two saves to secure her eighth shutout of the year.

This marks Owensboro’s fourth straight shutout and fourth straight win.

The Lady Devils now sit at 9-6 overall and will look to stay hot when they hit the road to take on Madisonville-North Hopkins at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30.

Owensboro Catholic vs. Murray 

The Lady Aces started off All A State with a win, defeating Murray 5-1 on Saturday.

There was no shortage of offense for Owensboro Catholic, with four different players scoring.

Sophomore Mallary Bailey led the way with two goals on the day, while sophomore Ginny Young, junior Maddie Hayden and senior Ashton Logsdon all scored a goal each.

The win marks the Lady Aces fourth straight, as they move to 15-3 overall on the season.

Apollo vs. Hopkins County Central

The E-gals couldn’t muster up enough offense on Saturday, falling 2-0 to Hopkins County Central.

Junior Jo Hutchinson made seven saves while allow one goal on the night before she had to leave the game due to injury.

Sophomore Lauren Leigh came in to replace her, making eight saves while allowing just one goal.

The E-gals now sit at 2-9 overall on the season and will look to snap their four-game losing streak when they host McLean County at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
