Apollo football was handed its second straight loss on Friday, falling to a strong Central Hardin offense 43-13.
Central Hardin got straight to work and set the tone in the first quarter, as a touchdown followed by a two-point conversion put them up 8-0 with five minutes left in the first quarter.
The Bruins carried this momentum into the second quarter, with senior Treyvon Williams doing the exact same thing minutes into it to take a 16-0 lead.
Once Central Hardin got on a roll they couldn’t be stopped, as with 8:05 left in the second quarter they grabbed another rushing touchdown, this time from senior Mason Thompson. This time the two-point conversion was no good, but they were holding onto a 22-0 lead.
Sophomore Noah Rhinerson eventually put Apollo on the board minutes before halftime, converting a two-yard run for a touchdown to make it a 22-7 ballgame.
However, Central Hardin came right back before the half ended with a big pick-six, sending them into the locker room up 29-7.
The Bruins continued to build on their lead in the second half, with senior Kaden Fergerson giving the Eagles a double dose of rushing touchdowns to give them a 43-7 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Apollo was able to earn one more touchdown later as junior Chrisitan Combs found senior Evan Miller for a 24-yard touchdown, but their deficit was too much to overcome and gave Central Hardin the 43-13 win.
Combs was 17-35 passing with 265 yards and one touchdown pass on the night while they had a total of 70 rushing yards.
Head Coach John Edge said he was pleased with the yardage his team gained on the night, but said they shot themselves in the foot too many times.
Now sitting at 1-2 overall, the Eagles will return home for its next matchup to take on North Hardin at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10.
