Owensboro Catholic football is looking to carry its momentum from its first win of the season into its road matchup with Todd County Central on Friday.

The Aces are coming off of a massive 47-0 win over Hancock County in front of their home crowd. Senior Lincoln Clancy quarterback was extremely accurate last week, throwing for 299 yards on 17-23 passing attempts to go along with three touchdowns.

Senior Braden Mundy (118 yards, six catches, three touchdowns) and sophomore Reid Clark (79 yards, four catches) were his primary targets, combining for 197 yards.

Sophomore Hunter Monroe opened things up for Clancy and his receivers with a solid game in the backfield, rushing for 102 yards on 11 carries to go with his lone rushing touchdown.

Despite their strong offensive performance, Head Coach Jason Morris feels as though they could’ve been even more efficient.

“I expect to see us continue to improve and execute for four quarters [against Todd County Central],” Morris said. “We were not satisfied with our level of execution last week in the first half. We felt like we left points out there.”

Owensboro Catholic will be taking on a Rebels team that has lost its last four contests and looking to grab its first home win since week one.

Morris said that the Rebels are a team that can change a game quickly with its experienced offense, having scored over 50 points twice this season.

“Todd County is a senior led team with very good team speed,” Morris said. “They have the athletes on offense to score points in bunches.”

Junior quarterback Nolan Gavyn is the man under center, posing a dual threat by averaging around 100 yards passing and just under 30 yards rushing per game. Junior Nate Redding is his primary target, averaging 58 receiving yards per game.

The bulk of Todd County Central’s offense comes from senior Omarion Riddick, who averages 98 yards rushing per game.

Riddick also poses a big threat defensively, something that Morris and his staff have taken notice of in film study.

“He is almost leading 2-A in tackles this season from his free safety position,” Morris said. “He is also an explosive running back on offense. We must stop him before he gets going because he is very dangerous in the open field.”

Knowing that Friday will be an all-out battle between the two teams, Morris said they’ve emphasized attention to detail and remaining physical in practice this week.

“Our focus is always on the small details of our schemes that will allow us to execute at the highest level,” Morris said. “We continue to focus on our physicality level and being a physical team.”

With the season slowly approaching its end and district games mattering more and more for seeding, Morris said they have to take the game to Todd County Central and try to put them away early when they take the field Friday.

“It’s week 2 of district play, so we must get a win if we are wanting home field for the playoffs,” Morris said. “We need to get ahead early and put pressure on Todd County.”
