Owensboro and Daviess County volleyball were in action Thursday night, with the Lady Devils defeating Hancock County and the Lady Panthers fell to South Warren.
Owensboro vs. Hancock County
Owensboro volleyball grabbed its second straight home win to start the season, handily sweeping Hancock County in three sets (25-12, 25-12, 25-15).
The Lady Devils got straight to work in the first set, separating themselves by dominating offensively en route to a 25-12 win.
Owensboro carried much of the same into the following set, ending in the same result. In the final set Hancock County tried its best to make a late push, but the Red Devils stayed hot and came away with the 25-15 win to take all three sets.
The Lady Devils were efficient in all facets of the game, earning 23 kills, 16 digs, 15 assists and 15 kills.
Hannah Ashely (five) and Kennedy Thompson (four) led the way with nine combined aces, while Thompson also led the way with eight digs.
Maya Joska and Mia Covington took care of business in the assists department, earning seven and six respectively.
Joska was also the second-leading Lady Devil in kills with five, while Brooklyn Williams led the way with seven.
Head Coach Melissa Hibbs and company now sit at 2-0 to start the season and will hit the road for the first time, but will remain close to home. Owensboro will compete in the Apollo Summer Slam, as they will take on Taylor County in its first game at 7 p.m.
Daviess County vs. South Warren
South Warren’s offense was too much for Daviess County to handle in the match, falling in three sets (25-13, 25-17, 25-13)
Kayla Clark, Lexi Owen, Adylan Ayer and Josie Newcom provided most of the production for Daviess County.
Clark had seven digs and an ace, Owen had seven assists and five digs, Ayer had five digs and four kills, while Newcom also have five digs and four kills.
The loss moves Daviess County to 1-1 overall before it returns from its road trip to compete in the Apollo Summer Slam.
