Former Kentucky Wesleyan Panther and Owensboro Thoroughbred Ken-Jah Bosley is resigning to play professional basketball in Iceland.
Bosley resigned with Vestri, a team that he helped rack up multiple accolades in their respective league.
“I signed with Vestri in Top League Iceland (Dominos),” Bosley said. “I played with them last year and helped promote them up to the premier league so they decided to bring me back.”
Bosley’s basketball journey hasn’t always been conventional though, as he’s had numerous stops leading to Vestri.
He got his professional career started with De La Salle Jerusalem in Palestine in 2017, but felt that it was time to leave after three months due to turmoil between Palestine and Israel.
Bosley then made the move back to Owensboro, joining the Thoroughbreds for the last two months of the 2018 season.
Following a dry spell, he got another opportunity in the NBL’s (Australia’s Premier League) feeder league the NBLOne with the Albury Wodonga Bandits.
“I was one of the top players in that league and ended up signing early to go to Luxembourg for Avanti Mondorf while I was playing in Australia,” Bosley said. “I spent a few weeks home and went to Luxembourg in September 2019 and left in March due to COVID-19.”
Bosley then waited about a month and a half back in America because of COVID-19 before ultimately resigning with Vestri.
His resigning was rightfully earned, as the guard averaged 23.1 ppg., 5.1 apg, & 6 rpg, en route to a league championship in Iceland.
Bosley has valued all the stops along the way in his journey, but joins former Panther teammate Jordan Jacks in crediting a specific coach for the impact KWC had on him.
“Coach Happy Osborne is the answer,” Bosley said. “That man instilled so many qualities into us to be unafraid and compete.”
In returning to play overseas, there’s a number of challenges Bosley will have to face, but he considers himself blessed to be able to play basketball for a living.
“The weather living in northern Iceland is tough especially through the fall and winter,” Bosley said. “Being away from family can be tough at times too but it’s actually not too bad because I love what I do. I try keeping that perspective.”
With the new heights that Vestri has reached with the help of Bosley, he’s ready to take the team and his game to the next level as well.
“I’m just looking forward to playing in a premier league,” Bosley said. “I’ve worked my tail off for four years just to get an opportunity to be on the biggest stage somewhere. To have the opportunity in my fifth year is exciting.”
Bosley plans to do so by leading by example and continuing to do the things that he does well on a daily basis.
“I’m looking to just be the example by working hard, leading, and competing,” Bosley said. “My role will be playmaking, doing some things off the ball offensively, and scoring. I have a relationship with the organization so I know what to expect which is great. It’s the first time I’ve been 100% comfortable going into a season since college.”
Playing overseas isn’t an easy feat and Bosley thanks his loved ones for being his rock that pushes him every single day, especially with the season quickly approaching.
“Overseas has been an up and down process for me so I definitely want to thank my mom and dad for supporting me and being my numberone supporters along with my siblings Elijah, Shadae’, and Krishawn,” Bosley said. “That core helps me push forward through the good and bad days.”
