The Owensboro RiverDawgs snapped a four-game losing streak against the Muhlenberg County Stallions, grabbing a 4-2 victory for Head Coach Vic Evans 100th win as manager.
The RiverDawgs took advantage of an error and used some two-out magic to get things rolling, as PJ Barry reached second with two outs after reaching base on a dropped fly ball.
With their backs against the wall, Paul Coumoulos singled to left and put runners on the corners for Owensboro. Cole Gober came through during the next at-bat, singling to right field to take a 1-0 lead.
After a scoreless second inning, the RiverDawgs offense came alive again in the bottom of the third.
Barry flew out to start the inning, but a double from David Jeffers quickly gave Owensboro a scoring threat.
A walk put Coumoulos at first, while Jeffers had already advanced to third. A passed ball later brought Jeffers home, while Coumoulos advanced to second when Gober struck out for the second out of the inning.
Ben Clark followed up with a double, bringing home a run in order to take a 3-0 lead into the fourth inning.
The Stallions got a run back in the top of the fifth, thanks to a pair of two-out singles. Following a fly out to start the inning, Zach Chowanksy singled to center.
He advanced to second on a fielder’s choice, while Tanner Bray moved him to third with a two-out single.
Mason Lundgrin then put Muhlenberg County on the board, singling to center to make it a 3-1 game.
The RiverDawgs quickly responded, as Coumoulos doubled and a single from Gober to kick off the inning made it a 4-1 lead.
The Stallions got another run back in the top of the seventh, thus ending Brice Stutiville’s day on the bump.
Stuiville had control of the Muhlenberg County offense, going eight and a third and allowing two runs on four hits.
Noah Cantleberry closed out the eighth, while Ethan Cernohous came in during the ninth and closed the door to secure a 4-2 win for Owensboro.
Now back in the winning column, the RiverDawgs will play a short two-game series against the Henderson Flash, with the first game taking place at 6:30 p.m.
