With their backs against the wall, the Owensboro RiverDawgs put together a nine-run top of the ninth en route to an 11-5 road victory over the Henderson Flash.

The RiverDawgs put the first run on the board in the top of the third thanks to a home run from Sam Pinkert, but the Flash quickly claimed the lead in the bottom half of the inning.

Santrel Farmer walked to leadoff the inning before being driven in with an RBI double from Trevor Campbell knotting things up at 1-1. Sitting at second Campbell later scored on a one-out single from Brandon Daniels to grab the 2-1 lead.

Lucas Gulczynski tied things up at 2-2 with a two-out RBI single in the top of the fourth, but the lead didn’t remain Owensboro’s for long.

In the bottom of the fourth Henderson took advantage of a Bombers’ error, earning a sacrifice fly from Nick Rucker before a two-run single from Daniels made it a 5-2 lead for the Flash.

And Henderson was getting a stellar start from Gavin Braunneker, who had tossed seven innings while allowing two runs on four hits and striking out 10.

Both teams had put up goose eggs offensively until the ninth, when the RiverDawgs flipped the switch when they needed to the most.

A leadoff single from Ben Clark led to a major momentum switch when Cole Gober homered during the next at-bat to cut their deficit to 5-4 with no outs in the ninth.

Two walks and an error then loaded the bases with one out for Owensboro, before a second error in the inning tied things up at 5-5.

With ducks on the pond once again, Hayden Hirschvogel singled to left to score two and give the RiverDawgs their first lead since 1-0 at 7-5.

A third error by the Flash made it 8-5, before Gober sent a missile to left field for his second home run of the inning. This one drove in three runs, giving Owensboro an 11-5 lead and capping off a nine-run inning.

With the wind completely out of their sails, Ethan Cernohous silenced Henderson’s bats in the bottom of the ninth, securing the major comeback win for the RiverDawgs.

Gober had a massive day for Owensboro, homering twice for his only hits in five plate appearances, driving in five runs.

Owensboro now sits at 13-15 overall with their first two-game winning streak since the middle of June and will look to extend it when they host the Flash for the second straight game at 6:30 p.m.
