The Kentucky Wesleyan College Bowling programs will be searching for a new head coach in the upcoming weeks as coach Roger Petrin has accepted the head coaching position at University of Maryland-Eastern Shore.

“Becoming the UMES head coach has always been a dream of mine,” Petrin said. “With as much as excitement as I have, it also comes with a sense of sadness. This past year was my first year of coaching and I could not have asked for a better group of individuals to coach. I am forever grateful for their dedication to this sport and this team and school will always have a place in my heart.”

Petrin led the KWC bowling teams to new heights in his one year under the helm, helping lead both the men and women’s teams to their best records in school history. The Panther women finished their season ranked 10th nationally by the ITC, the first time a KWC bowling program has ever been ranked. The future is bright for KWC as the Great Midwest Athletic Conference and Conference Carolinas have introduced a partnership to offer a men’s and women’s bowling championship event during the 2021-22 academic year. “We believe that our program is in a good place with good student-athletes who are committed to the sport and to Kentucky Wesleyan College,” said Mark Shook, Interim Athletic Director, on the announcement. “We thank Roger and Tamara for their efforts in this past year and wish them both the best in their move but look forward to the 2021-22 academic year for many reasons — among them is our partnership with the GMAC Conference Carolinas to offer a men’s and women’s bowling championships in March, 2022.” added Shook, who will also be the GMAC’s Athletic Administrator Liaison for Men’s and Women’s Bowling and will assist with all coaches’ meetings and will attend the championships as well.

A national search for a new head coach will be started later this week.
