Jaiveon Eaves and Corey Wilford of the Owensboro Thoroughbreds have been recognized for their terrific season with postseason honors.
Eaves was named to the Midwest Division First Team, while Wilford was named to the Midwest Division Second Team.
“Both players are very deserving of the nominations as they propelled us to a 16-8 regular season,” Head Coach Mark Anderson said.
Eaves has taken on a crucial bench role in his first season in the league, being a spark plug night in and night out for Owensboro.
“Jaiveon has had an outstanding rookie season averaging almost 20 points a game coming off the bench,” Anderson said. “He’s been fun to watch and see him get better as the season progressed.”
Wilford’s a Thoroughbred veteran who has averaged 22.9 PPG on 53% shooting from the field and 40% shooting from beyond the arc.
Coming off a past ACL injury that sidelined him, Wilford is thrilled to be able to compete at such a high level.
“It’s an honor to receive this award after missing so many games due to tearing my ACL,” Wilford said. That goes to show the level of respect the coaches have for my game. First receiving 6th Man of the Year in 2019 and now this. It’s truly a blessing.
Anderson and Wilford have been together for the last three seasons and Anderson said Wilford is more than deserving of the honor.
“I have had the pleasure of coaching Corey the last 3 seasons (last 2 here )and when we were in Jamestown (2019) together he earned 6th Man of the Year,” Anderson said. “He’s a very good player and a pleasure to coach as he is very coachable.”
The two will look to help push the Thoroughbreds through to the next round by avoiding elimination in their next game against the Indy Express on Friday, July 1.
